Historia
Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Delores Brown has lived a relatively sheltered life. Shielded by her mother’s position as the estate’s medicine woman and cherished by the Master’s sister, she is set apart from the others on the plantation, belonging to neither world. She’d been promised freedom on her eighteenth birthday, but instead of the idyllic life she imagined with her true love, Essex Henry, Pheby is forced to leave the only home she has ever known. She unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half Acre.

Way too graphic
Revisado: 03-05-24
I read with book after reading House of Eve. I didn’t realize it would be so graphic. Some may like it but it was a bit much for me. Slavery is traumatizing and I have to take stories like that in doses.

Excellent Story
Revisado: 04-14-23
I listens to this series as I worked. It was very entertaining. I found myself talking back to the story, laughing and being super engulfed in the story and it’s characters. I can’t wait to listen to season 2.

Good Message Bad Narrator
Revisado: 05-13-22
I tried listening to this book after purchasing it he physical one. It seemed I would save some time by listening throughout the day. The narrator’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me. I still want to read the book but I’m going to have to read the physical copy instead.

Flawless Read
Revisado: 05-13-22
Hands down this is the best audiobook production I’ve ever heard. Will is an amazing story teller. There’s music and animations as well. Will does a great job pulling you in and placing you directly in the story. I laughed and cried while listening. It was like talking to a friend. I’m seriously waiting on a part 2. I couldn’t get enough of this book.

Historia
Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola’s third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede’s practicality is the sisters’ saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works.

It was just ok
Revisado: 05-13-22
If you’re looking for something to listen to while you clean or cook etc. this book will be ok. Initial limit was hard for me to listen to because of the narrator’s tone. The story is also very choppy. Short chapters with stories all over the place. I put the book down after an hour. Then I picked back up to finish yesterday. The ending was strange and there was no real closure about the sister and their family.

Gabrielle tells an AMAZING story
Revisado: 11-18-17
I absolutely LOVED this book! It was like sitting and talking to come of my closets girlfriends. She was funny, woke an an overall joy to listen to. I was never a die hard Gabrielle Union fan but this book has reintroduced me to her. I lover her now. Knowing her story shines a whole new light in her. This is a must read. I finished the book in 2 Days.
