mediocre for me
Revisado: 03-09-24
Perhaps I would enjoy this book more if I had actually read the physical book. The narrator was fine. I just could not get into this particular story. it's the first time I felt like I was wasting my time reading one of her novels. I'm going to listen to the next one with high hopes of course.

methodical story
Revisado: 12-24-23
I always have the hardest time with this narrator mainly because they switch narrators so much with this series that it's hard for me to get into his voices. It interferes with the story and it takes me longer to get engaged. I finished it but that's the only drawback it has.

Historia
Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

This was painful to get through. I gave it way too many chapters. Finally abandoned it, unfinished. The narrator was excellent, but the main female character became unbearable.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.
