Historia
Gregory Roarke—former bounty hunter, former Trailblazer, current agent for the ultra-secret Icarus Group—has received a new assignment: locate a suspected but as-yet undiscovered teleportation portal on the backwater colony world of Alainn. The rival Patth are also searching for the device, and have considerably more resources at their disposal. Fortunately, Roarke has Selene and her incredibly sensitive Kadolian sense of smell. On paper, it should be a straightforward enough job. But that was before there was a murder in the small town of Bilswift . . . and another one . . .

Good story. Audio issues fixed!

Another enjoyable story from Zahn. The low frequency audio was easier to hear in this book than others in the series, which is greatly appreciated.

Historia
For years Gregory Roarke and his Kadolian partner Selene worked as crocketts, combing through the atmospheres of uninhabited worlds for places that might be colonized or hold valuable resources. Now, they work for the Icarus Group, a top-secret government organization hunting for portals created by a long-vanished alien race, portals that can teleport a person hundreds or thousands of light-years in the blink of an eye. Usually, those hunts are long and tedious. But Roarke has now been handed an intriguing offer.

Great story, hard to hear narrator
Revisado: 07-28-24
Excellent story, and Marc Thompson is amazing. But his low voices are really hard to hear if there’s any background noise. His sound mixer really needs to balance out the dynamic range in volume, and find s way to make Silene’s (sp?) voice understandable in anything other than perfect silence.

Great book, Worth the listen. Narrator too quiet.
Revisado: 07-09-24
Great book. Good plot. Classic Zahn. And as usual Marc Thompson’s voices are top notch. But whoever is mixing his audio really needs to balance out the dynamic range and make the recording louder. I’m a father of 5 kids and rarely get to listen to audiobooks in perfect silence. Thompson’s low voices are too soft to be heard properly even on full volume if you have any background noise. And the parts where the characters shout hurt your ears if you have the volume cranked up to hear the soft parts. I had to rewind countless times to catch critical dialog.

Historia
His vengeance against the gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive...and teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series - satisfying combat, breathtaking scale, and a powerful narrative - and fuses them anew.

Good narration, no depth to the story at all
Revisado: 10-21-22
The narrator was good, but even he could only give our protagonist’s favorite line, “Boy!”, so much meaning before it got old. I realized I would be happier not finishing listening to the book, which is an extreme rarity for me. Moving on. At least it was free from audible plus.

Historia
Jordan McKell has a problem with authority. Unfortunately for him, the iron-fisted authority of the powerful Patthaaunutth controls virtually every aspect of galactic shipping. In order to survive, Jordan ekes out a living dabbling in interstellar smuggling for outlaw concerns that represent the last vestiges of free trade in the galaxy. So when Jordan and his partner, Ixil - an alien with two ferret-like "outhunters" linked to his neural system - are hired by a mysterious gentleman to fly a ship and its special cargo to Earth, they jump at the job.

Excellent story, excellent voice acting, slightly distorted audio
Revisado: 11-19-20
As always, Zahn’s latest Thrawn book did not disappoint. I fully recommend this book.
The only downside is that the audio effects made this particular book difficult to listen to at times. While the distortion effects (such as when Thrawn is speaking while wearing a space suit) do add immersion, they were usually just annoying. I literally couldn’t hear what was being said because it was too distorted. It didn’t help much that the overall audio level of this book was much lower than most audio books I listen to.
In summary, listen to the book, it’s great. But if the producers of the audio books read this, please stop adding in distortion effects. I want to actually hear what the characters are saying.

Funny book, but way too much language
Revisado: 05-25-16
Plot, story and performance were great, but the constant use of vulgarities was off-putting. Author gets credit for at least bring creative about it though and not just dropping F-bombs everywhere.
I would have loved for this book to be awesome. Unfortunately, I can only give him 2 out of 5 stars in customer satisfaction.
