Historia
We meet our narrator hanging around the nail salon where her mother works, eavesdropping on her conversation with one of the regulars, Helen. But she’s really hoping to see Helen’s daughter, Patty - older, rebellious, and completely captivating. When Helen invites her over to their house to help organize a home office, she jumps at the opportunity. But as the day goes on, she encounters something she shouldn’t and gets caught up in the sinister nature of other people’s property and private lives.

Um….why?
Revisado: 10-04-23
I understand this was supposed to be a short story, but I’m unsure why the author “finished” the story without actually telling any story at all. Just lots of half notions from what I can tell.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Aden Stone has had a hell of a week. He's been tortured by angry witches, hypnotized by a vengeful fairy, spied on by a vampire, and, oh yeah, killed - twice. His vampire girlfriend might have brought him back to life, but he’s never felt more out of control. There’s a darkness within him, something taking over… changing him. Worse, because he was meant to die, death now stalks him at every turn. Any day could be his last. Life couldn’t get any worse. Could it?

Why even write this story?
Revisado: 05-05-23
Just finished the book and am so livid. Spoilers but the author ends the trilogy by making sure the events never took place - so dumb.

Historia
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

I couldn't even finish
Revisado: 06-05-12
It was my mistake to listen to this book on a whim. I had been hearing the title mentioned a lot and seeing it in stores on stands. I decided to see what the hubbub was about myself with out actually seeing what the book was about. A few chapters in I was having the strangest sense of deja vu, like I'd heard this story before. That's when I looked the book up and discovered it was a twilight based story turned erotic. Perhaps the story gets better but I wont be finding out. If I must suffer through Anastasia's inner dialogue I wont do it with Battoe's voice in my head. Her inflections were too pointed and obvious to make them feel genuine and it made me dislike the main character. Not the sort of thing you need in addition to the repetitive sentiment (how many times in the first chapter alone did she say how gorgeous Grey was - and in the same exact way. If you are going to repeat an idea over an over again at least mix it up a little for the reader. Don't just flat out say Oh he's so gorgeous or he's so beautiful. It makes the character seem unimaginative.) This mixed with overtly obvious attempts to make the character seem witty "I must be the color of the communist manifesto" just doesn't work. There may be some characters that could get away with thinking/saying this, but I don't think any of them exist in this story.

Historia
With no other family and a life spent in and out of institutions, Aden and the souls have become friends. But now they're causing him all kinds of trouble. Like, he'll blink and suddenly he's a younger Aden, reliving the past. One wrong move, and he'll change the future. Or he'll walk past a total stranger and know how and when she's going to die. He's so over it. All he wants is peace. And then he meets a girl who quiets the voices. Well, as long as he's near her. Why? Mary Ann Gray is his total opposite.

Thouroughly entertaining
Revisado: 06-01-12
I've enjoyed the start of Showalter's series Intertwined. Picked it up on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed it. But how could I not? Time travel, possession, psychics, zombies, werewolves and vampires as well as the usual high school politics, hormones and homework. A delicate balance that, if strayed but a little, may cause one to slip of the edge. However Intertwined delivers a story with good pacing that kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next. Can't wait to see what happens next.
I also enjoyed Almasy's performance and what she brought to the characters, especially Riley. Too often when I'm reading and come across the phrase "he said gruffly" it is then added on as an afterthought. With Almasy's performance you got to hear Riley's rough nature and sense the animal even in times when he was being gentle, like his endearing sweetness to Mary Ann.

Great
Revisado: 01-09-12
Would you listen to The Looking Glass Wars again? Why?
Really interesting spin on Alice in Wonderland. Very imaginative.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dodge, he stayed and fought even though everything was seemingly taken away from him. Granted he did tread a bit close to the deep end.
Which character – as performed by Gerard Doyle – was your favorite?
He did a great job on all the characters
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Forget what you knew about Wonderland
Any additional comments?
Great book
