Historia
Life on the Waves isn't easy. Especially if you're a pickpocket with no education, no prospects, and no future. For Chase and his crew of low-lives, there is one real option. If they want a path out of poverty, they will have to unlock access to the magical card system that will change their lives for the better. Of course, nothing's free in life. And nobody higher up the chain is going to give them a hand up. But what they might lack in education, riches, and, let's face it, hygiene, they have in determination.

Lots of fun
Revisado: 03-13-25
This is a series that was clearly released in steps. Every aspect and story is great but clearly it was not meant to be a full book. The Climactic battle is little more than halfway through and the final battle felt easier. That said I would have given this book a 4 star for it, but everything else is so good I can't bring myself to dwell on that small detail. the Characters are fun, flawed, diverse, and make reasonable choices. The villians/enemies are deep and have a decent range of differences. The magic system is less than I expect but still very fun and workable. The writing and narration kept me on edge. Don't gete wrong in the world of LitRPGs this is not DCC but it is a very compelling story with a band of misfits fighting oppression in a very literal sense.
P.S. No Harem elements, no OP main characters, no perfect plan, no wish fulfillment bs, and no pathetic MC.

It was a regular day when I found my first card. Now, my days are anything but. Beautiful women, powerful cards, and guilds who will do anything to kill me and acquire my deck. It's a life beyond my wildest dreams—if I can just survive long enough to enjoy it.

Easily the worst DeckBuilding LitRPGs I have read
Revisado: 02-24-25
For the last year I have been searching and listening to every deck building LitRPG I can find. I love the genre but this one reminds me that I still have standards. The whole story a clear wish fulfillment fantasy. Starting with the MC who always gets what he wants, Everyone either thinks he's ballsy or doesn't matter. His side kick/chick is a bleach blonde Bimbo in the form of a Redhead Texan, who likes big things and Texas. They get their powers suddenly and beat someone who is basically a pro right away. Then find a small group of card holders who specialize in group tactics, while basically not knowing each other. Then they have sex in her god mother's apartment before going off and being bad asses. The second chick seems quite a bit smarter which is common in Harem lot but she is the mysterious goth girl that is either grumpy, moppy, or mysterious. Very little is explained about the card system and the MC never asks, checks, or verifies anything with anyone who knows things. He essentially always guesses right. Honestly from what I can piece together about the system it is pretty decent but weirdly everyone they gave is acting like a beginner. Few cards, no levels, and poor tactics.

Way to shake it up
Revisado: 11-11-24
This book has a lot of the elements that drew me in in the first two books and more. new Races, New monsters, Competent heroes doubted at every turn, and real stakes stacked on top of the existential stakes they have been working against since book 2. The only part I didn't like in this book was in the post credit talk when the writer said he only plans on making 10 books. these books are too entertaining to end so soon.

Chimera Cards are OP
Revisado: 10-21-24
for those wandering these cards work more like Ritual cards from Yu-Gi-Oh then fusion cards. They require a number of materials plus a key card. What makes it a bit broken is that it requires only one card to summon any Chimera and you can pull the materials from the deck. While I'm not saying it's broken overall because higher level duelists seem to be on equal footing.

Great continuation to conclusion
Revisado: 09-23-24
this was a great book and like the previous books it covers a lot. There are more cards than in the previous book and alot of other systems at play. The end while simple was not what I had predicted which made it all the more enjoyable.

Historia
The long-awaited sequel to Jake’s Magical Market is finally here—and now with more market! Well, not quite yet. First, Jake has to survive a perilous trek through time if he ever hopes to return home to his friends, his market, and his former world. The last time we saw our intrepid hero, Jake had barely managed to escape being trapped on a dead version of his own world. Using a combination of his new powers, he threw himself backward through time, back to when the god that trapped him first rose to power.

I feel like I waited forever for this to come out on audible.
Revisado: 08-24-24
I feel like I waited forever for this to come out on audible. The narrator shift was only a bit jarring and was almost completely gone by chapter 4. The story was great, all the new characters were fun and well handled. The MC is still himself just a few steps beyond the slacker he was at the start of the first book. He is almost a newly Isekai character again though he goes at it with more maturity and less fear. Honestly I don't understand the critiques some people have thrown at this book. The only real different between this and the first book is that it doesn't shift around to 3 different settings and is instead grounded in one world and general location.

This series remains great
Revisado: 05-05-24
The system is engaging, the world grounded but fantastical, the characters realistic and fun. The only thing I would say it lacks is twists within twists. But this is an adventure book with elements of mystery so lacking convoluted misdirection is probably for the best. If you like book 1 it's much the same with more exploration of the world.
Small not relevant spoiler ahead. Ending the book on an interlude that expanded concepts of the system was a great way to create the disconnect. Unlike with book 1 I was very satisfied with this ending.

Why aren't more people talking about this series?
Revisado: 05-05-24
This is probably the best female Isekai MC I have ever read. She is progressive without being obnoxious and kind without being a doormat. Much of the early book doesn't even really include her Isekai heritage but she uses it well all the same. I will definitely be continuing though the end felt incomplete like a few other LitRPGs I've read. It feels like it simply slowed down and ended rather than reaching a peak and resolve. I guess this is becoming more industry standard for the genre.
Edit: Correction I tried to read to other books and my mind kept wondering back. So I am continuing it right away.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Best Anit-cultivator book I read
Revisado: 03-16-24
Truly an amazing book. While the Xianxia fights were few and far between the raw emotion of each scene made me love everything going on. The idea of straight up turning you back on the cultivator lifestyle is a new concept to me and was excellently executed. There were moments to laugh, and moments that almost made me cry. The obscurity of the battle chicken attitude and holy power was unforgettable. I also appreciate how much this series calls out or pokes fun at some Xianxia and Isekai tropes. This will make a great addition to any Progression Fantasy, LitRPG, or Fantasy collection. I am picking up book 2 immediately.

Dismal to say the least
Revisado: 04-09-23
This is a prime example of MarySue type litrpg. The MC complains a lot, sees himself as a deep thinker but misses obvious stuff. I couldn't even get halfway, through the book before becoming completely exhausted of it.
