Historia
In 1937, 28-year-old Martha Gellhorn travels alone to Madrid to report on the atrocities of the Spanish Civil War and becomes drawn to the stories of ordinary people caught in the devastating conflict. It's the adventure she's been looking for and her chance to prove herself a worthy journalist in a field dominated by men. But she also finds herself unexpectedly - and uncontrollably - falling in love with Hemingway, a man on his way to becoming a legend. In the shadow of the impending Second World War, Martha and Ernest's relationship and their professional careers ignite.

Love and Ruin is a Great Read!

The audio version is terrific—makes me want to read some of Gelhorn’s fiction. This is definitely a good book club selection!

Historia
One morning in late 2017, New York Times columnist Frank Bruni woke up with strangely blurred vision. He wondered at first if some goo or gunk had worked its way into his right eye. But this was no fleeting annoyance, no fixable inconvenience.

Wonderful! Life affirming!
Revisado: 08-26-22
I thoroughly enjoyed Frank Bruni’s book; it is our next book club selection, and I can’t wait to participate in the discussion.
We live in an adult community and can relate to the message Mr. Bruni delivers: there’s beauty to behold and and there are pleasures to experience at all stages of life. The only constraints facing us are those we place upon ourselves.

Light Reading That Will Warm Your Hearts
Revisado: 03-29-22
This is a light read that is a welcome activity during these troubled times. It’s wonderful to read about good friends who support each other and provide comfort and understanding—especially as divisiveness, anger and hate grow.
The reader is wonderful. You’re sure to enjoy!

Historia
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, just a block or two up from the East River on Division Avenue, Surie Eckstein is soon to be a great-grandmother. Her 10 children range in age from 13 to 39. Her in-laws, postwar immigrants from Romania, live on the first floor of their house. Her daughter Tzila Ruchel lives on the second. She and Yidel, a scribe in such demand that he makes only a few Torah scrolls a year, live on the third. Wed when Surie was 16, they have a happy marriage and a full life, and, at the ages of 57 and 62, they are looking forward to some quiet time together.

A marvelous journey into the characters’ minds
Revisado: 07-21-20
A masterful depiction of a pious Chasidic woman conflicted—loving her life on the one hand and yet wanting more. The author does a wonderful job of bringing the reader on this journey of awakening and awareness.
A heartwarming, somewhat disturbing and deeply satisfying read.
