Historia
Sixteen-year-old Odile vies for a coveted seat on the Conseil. If she earns the position, she’ll decide who may cross her town’s heavily guarded borders. To the east, the town is twenty years ahead in time. To the west, it’s twenty years behind. The towns repeat in an endless sequence across the wilderness. When Odile recognizes two visitors she wasn’t supposed to see, she realizes that the parents of her friend Edme have been escorted across the border from the future, on a mourning tour, to view their son while he’s still alive in Odile’s present.

Wow incredible
Revisado: 01-17-25
A book hasn’t gripped me like this in years. Performance is immaculate. The writing is so subtle and crisp. I wish I could listen to this again for the first time. I can’t recommend it enough

Historia
“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

Amazing
Revisado: 09-18-23
This easily was the best autobio of the year. It is raw and real and deeply relatable. Elliot has been saving the lives of youth and adults for his entire life, and I’m so glad this book exists to reach others. The shared experiences of queer people are prevalent in more ways than we realize. He obviously performs the book beautifully. You can tell he’s an actor by the way he read the voices of other people in his story, adding emotion and layers to the scene. I’ll revisit this for so many reasons for so many years to come.

Historia
Here is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behavior of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass on the street outside. She remains hopeful that a customer will soon choose her. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable narrator, and one that explores the fundamental question: What does it mean to love?

Historia
Lauren Fleshman has grown up in the world of running. One of the most decorated collegiate athletes of all time and a national champion as a pro, she was a major face of women’s running for Nike before leaving to shake up the industry with feminist running brand Oiselle and now coaches elite young female runners. Every step of the way, she has seen the way that our sports systems—originally designed by men, for men and boys—fail young women and girls as much as empower them. Written with heart and verve, Good for a Girl is a joyful love letter to the running life.

Life Changing
Revisado: 01-13-23
I wish I had this book 10 years ago. So many athletes and coaches will be positively changed after they listen to this work. The impact this story has, with all of its information and its perspective, will be nationally felt. I’m so glad I found this.

Not memorable or at all significant. In another universe maybe this is the book we have been waiting for. It isn’t though.

Historia
In 1345, China lies under harsh Mongol rule. For the starving peasants of the Central Plains, greatness is something found only in stories. When the Zhu family’s eighth-born son, Zhu Chongba, is given a fate of greatness, everyone is mystified as to how it will come to pass. The fate of nothingness received by the family’s clever and capable second daughter, on the other hand, is only as expected.

I couldn’t stop listening. Narration was lovely, plot kept me hooked, dialogue was culturally accurate while staying modern through the translation… I’m taking a second listen to catch the foreshadowing I know I missed… so great

Historia
At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children—the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth's scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. In time, they are forgotten—a fading ansible signal speaking of events lost to Earth's history. But the Delphikis are about to make a discovery that will let them save themselves, and perhaps all of humanity in days to come.
