Historia
By day he ran the royal confectioners. By night, a den of debauchery where he extracted the weaknesses of powerful men. His blackmail box made him untouchable until his success turned him into a mass murderer. Killer Desserts is based on the bewildering true story of Udo Proksch. An extraordinary tale of greed, power, perfect pastries and Viennese decadence no one could invent. It's the story of a man who could seduce any woman and overcome any problem - that is, until his ship went down.

Wow... Just wow!

This was a wild ride from start to finish. I like to think of myself as a bit of a history buff, but I never knew any of this. Cannot believe that this one man had such a profound influence on Austria and even beyond. Amy Abraham wrote a fantastic and thrilling account of Udo Proksch's life, and Aidan Mayne's narration took her words and brought each and every moment to my ears as if it was all happening right in front of me. I cannot recommend this book enough. Seriously, my next vacation just might have to be to Vienna so I can see and experience all the places and cakes for myself.

Historia
Dr. Greta Helsing has inherited the family's highly specialized and highly peculiar medical practice. She treats the undead for a host of ills - vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. It's a quiet, supernatural-adjacent life until a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human and undead Londoners alike. As terror takes hold of the city, Greta must use her unusual skills to stop the cult if she hopes to save her practice - and her life.

Fantastic Listen with only minor frustration
Revisado: 01-06-20
Strange Practice is devilishly thrilling! Vivian Shaw expertly writes a detective meets monsters story that one could spend all night listening to. The only criticism I have is the narrator's pacing when scenes transition. There's no pause, and it could be very jarring suddenly switching to a different character, time, or place without a small stop to let the listener know the previous scene is finished. Otherwise, it was a fantastically read, wonderfully written ride that I would absolutely recommend!
