Repainting a Healthier Picture
Revisado: 12-07-24
One of the greatest books I’ve read on the topic of sex, desires, communication, and the importance of setting boundaries and discovering your sexual self. Tallon-Hicks’s psychological expertise is evident from the very first chapter, putting my “is this sex advice going to actually screw me over” fears to rest. In a world full of tabloid advice and 10 step solutions, Tallon-Hicks focuses instead on getting to know yourself, your wants, your boundaries, and how to recognize those things in others as well, teaching that everyone wants something different, and there is no “one size fits all” solutions when it comes to sex.
I read this book alongside Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski, and for me, the two books have completely repainted my sexual reality and understanding, creating a clear picture to put someone like me (a poorly sexually educated woman in her late twenties) on a healthy and fulfilling track. I cannot recommend this book enough, and plan to re read and revisit much of its wisdom and guidance as I continue on my journey of sexual understanding. Thank you so much to the author for setting me on a life-changing path.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.
