Don’t listen if sensitive to narrator breathing

Where to begin….I disliked the writing, the characters, and the storyline. Every character is laboriously introduced in detail , and then their choices described down to the type of underwear they prefer, and why. When next the character appears a few excruciating chapters later, you must undergo a recap of their life story, complete with reasons for their life choices AGAIN. The ‘delightful lovebirds’ are impossibly cringey, and the leaping around between character life stories makes the whole thing duller than ever.

Limbal rings - yeesh - this was the one thing I’ll remember about this series. This term is used entirely too much, like a child proud of a new word they’ve learned.
Other than the aforementioned, it was fairly entertaining, and the price was right.

I love Jennifer Jill Araya, but even she couldn't pull this fat out of the fire. I could not get past the first few chapters of the first book. I found it extremely slow; I could not stand Cassie, who vacillated between virginal coyness and assertive/passive aggressiveness, with a smattering of Walt Disney 'Cinderelly' cheerfulness. The other characters were blandly abhorrent, as well. The writing seems almost geared towards young adults, but instead played out with a lot of old boring townsfolk. 😴

I'm not sure whether I could even continue if one of my favorite narrators was reading, but I sure can't with this one. The voices she gave the characters might have been okay in a children's book, (a very short children's book) but are cringey in this case. I don't much like the characters anyway.

The narrator completely ruins the story..

The narrator's performance is so annoying. Her unneeded inflections throughout the story are making my ears bleed...I don't think I can finish listening.
