Historia
In the age of belief, magic is a myth. But when an apocalyptic crusade comes to the remote border of Gul Kana, that belief is shattered, as is the tenuous peace that held the Five Isles together. Now the prophecies that were used to justify this war are unraveling, revealing a hidden agenda while the world lies in the wake of the degradations of this war. But a slim skein of hope resides within the hidden truths, long kept secret and scattered throughout the isles—truths less reliant upon prophecy than heroism and great sacrifice.

Tim Gerald Renalds delivers as usual
Revisado: 01-02-25
I listen to anywhere between 50 to 70 fantasy books per year. No doubt Tim Gerald Reynolds is a narrator for many of them. He brought the story to life, and I found myself enjoying it thoroughly. As a fantasy reader I can confirm that it has all of the expect cliché and a few surprises, even if they’re on the darker side. There’s a lot more hints of s3xual abuse in this series, but the author is careful and it doesn’t distract from the story. I felt that it (the abuse) was well done considering the sensitive nature of this topic and to exclude it would not have done the characters justice, I am all for long extended fantasy epic but I’m very happy that this was only three books because I don’t think that you could’ve stretched this any further. All in all …if you like fantasy, you’re gonna like this. It gives you everything you expect but also there’s a few twists that make it fun.
Just a silly note, all authors have funny blind spots that I can catch, and this one loves to describe intestines as “purple or brused colored ropes” and it’s super redundant but it was like Ben Hale (great fantasy author) overusing the word “egress” that it was kind of endearing, which I know sounds odd, considering the subject material, but still did not take away from the story.

This book series is the perfect kind for when you’re working in the garden or about the house and you want to be entertained with some good old-fashioned typical fantasy. There’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s still recommended

In this epic culmination of the series, in a war in which thousands are dying, Desil must protect the only thing that can stop the massacre. But there is little he can do with only two allies. They must somehow elude their many enemies while figuring out how to unite their comrades, who face seemingly insurmountable challenges of their own. There is no room for error, no time to hide. A fun prequel
Revisado: 07-11-24
I’m a relatively heavy consumer of fantasy literature, which means that I read anywhere between 60 to 70 books per year. It’s easy to become bored in the genre because of some redundancies and common themes, but this was a fun and simple tale debt was engaging. While there were some slope bits, it was totally worth it for the character payoffs. Having already read the keepers saga. It was fun to go back in time and hear about their origins. I don’t feel it’s necessary to listen to this series in order so you can start here or start with the keepers and be satisfied.

Looking forward to the conclusion
Revisado: 06-12-24
I’ve been enjoying this saga over the past few years as they are produced, but I can honestly say that I’m ready for it to end. Not that the story is necessarily bad…Simon Vance always does an incredible job with narration. It’s just simply that the story has become a little tired. this happens often in high fantasy and I encourage the author to continue writing at least one or two more and make the conclusion pay off. But at this point, I don’t know how much further the story can go or maintain interest without going off the rails. I sent the author is attached to the characters the same way that many listeners would be in the wholesale slaughter of lovable characters would definitely destroy the rapport. The listeners have built with the story so I hope he doesn’t go full on Game of Thrones. On the other hand, I would really like to see what happens to some of these characters but I really don’t wanna wait years to find out,

Revisado: 05-28-24
For anybody who is embroiled in high fantasy these books hold up. Obviously, in this genre there’s going to be a lot of redundancy between elements, races, magic and what not but I feel the author did a very good job of creating a difference which was enjoyable.

Eric is a physicist, an angel vivisectionist, and an architect of the future. He's also an accidental time traveler, stuck in the past and trying to re-create his own future. Now he's got to save the world for a better tomorrow, but not like everyone does, in general, every day. Oh, no. He has to make a better tomorrow that looks exactly the way he remembers it, or there may be no yesterday, no today, and no Eric! There is a reason he hates time travel, and it has nothing to do with physics.

Slow but still worth it.
Revisado: 11-10-23
It’s clear the author has received a lot of flack for the pacing of this book, and the often excessive amount of descriptive detail related to world building and celestial or magic powers. But if you’re a true lover of fantasy, this installment is still entertaining and there’s plenty of meat in between some of the more shall I say… “slow” chapters. Don’t be discouraged by some of the bad reviews, it’s still a very good book. I’m am hoping the hours of detail and description pay off in the next release

Brilliant beginning to a stirring fantasy adventur
Revisado: 10-27-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The Riyria series is outstanding. Character development and connectivity, congruity, detail and a sense of completeness to stories and people are consistent. Michael J Sullivan has moved to the place of those Like JRR Tolken and George R. R. Martin. Even if you are not a typical fantasy reader, this series is balanced between the world of magic and mortals. Very captivating and rich in though provocation.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the development of relationships and the exploration of backstory. Having read the Thief of Swords and the following two books first, these prequels were beautify crafted so you can literally start the series in book 1 or book 3.
Which scene was your favorite?
I tend to admire Haydrian and any scene between him and Royce is always exciting or emotion provoking
Any additional comments?
Read the series. Its worth the time and the characters will stay with you.

A fantasy masterpiece.
Revisado: 02-25-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Eragon to be better than the print version?
I truly enjoyed the audio version of Eragon.
What did you like best about this story?
The descriptive history of races, geography and relationships made the story accessible and the familiarity of many of the fantasy creatures enhanced the story. Fantasy books with Dwarves, Elves and Dragons are tired and usually predictable but Eragon was refreshing and rather deep.
What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The voice acting from Gerard Doyle was exceptional. He did not merely read the text but delivered it with a definable set of voices and consistency in tone for each. Well done.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
“Bound by Destiny. Compelled by Friendship. Doomed by Fate.”
Any additional comments?
Worth the time, energy and attention.
