Historia
As a half-goddess possessing magic, Yaga is used to living on her own, her prior entanglements with mortals having led to heartbreak. She mostly keeps to her hut in the woods, where those in need of healing seek her out, even as they spread rumors about her supposed cruelty and wicked spells. But when her old friend Anastasia—now the wife of the Tsar, and suffering from a mysterious illness—arrives in her forest desperate for her protection, Yaga realizes the fate of all of Russia is tied to Anastasia’s. Yaga must step out of the shadows to protect the land she loves.

Finally an authentic narrator!!

I loved this story, but what I loved even more was that this is the first book about/pertaining to Russia I’ve listened to where the narrator properly pronounced all the names and words!

Historia
Everyone thinks I'm a genius. Everyone is wrong. Sure, I finished Harvard at eighteen and now make crazy money at a hedge fund. But that's not because I'm unusually smart or hard-working. It's because I cheat. You see, I have a unique ability. I can go outside time into my own personal version of reality - the place I call - "the Quiet" - where I can explore my surroundings while the rest of the world stands still.I thought I was the only one who could do this - until I met her.

Slightly painful despite wanting to like it
Revisado: 01-24-20
I tried...I really did. And I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t. There were some moments of potential, but it was teeming with minutiae and excessive, bordering repetitive, detail. I feel like that whole book could have been condensed to 3-4 chapters and still had the same impact. Also the author seemed to place his own justifications within the storyline’s narrative, defending potentially biased opinions or comments, and a little too much dislike of the city the character lived in. I actually increased the reading speed during the last hour just to get finished quicker. The narrators voice itself was fine, but he sounded bored and included strangely timed pauses in his speech.
