Historia
Roland Stang never intended to become the caretaker of 30 abandoned children. He was just looking for a place to get out of the rain. His plan was to lay low and allow the world to reset itself after a worldwide economic collapse. But things do change. An orphan himself from an early age, the former soldier can't simply walk away and leave the children he finds. Leading a handful of teens and a busload of orphaned children, Roland sets out to find a safe haven for them. Along the way, he'll make friends, enemies, and the odd mistake or two. Or more.

Good listen that missed being really good
Revisado: 09-12-22
For the most part a good listen. However, the last half dozen chapters were unnecessary/boring, that kinda ruined it for me.

Historia
You ever have one of those days? U.S. Marine Sergeant Jake Bayard did when he has to cancel a hot date to board a transport plane to the South Pole, which is hijacked by aliens with hostile intent to Earth. Bayard escapes into tunnels deep under the ice and stumbles upon advanced technology that teleports him to Epsilon Eridani. Desperately alone and on the run, Bayard falls back onto his combat training, soon discovering that these aliens keep human herds for meat. That’s it. He enlists some of the downtrodden and declares war against the hungry oppressors.

So much bad sci-fi
Revisado: 07-15-22
Boooooring. If someone told me this author took a lot of dumb ideas from a imaginative but dimwitted child and decided to write a book using those dumb ideas, I could totally believe it. And the performance is a bit lacking. Not sure if the narrator is not that good or if he disliked this so much he just phoned this one in. I raised the white flag and surrendered around chapter 13. Don't torture yourself with this badly written mess.

Historia
Five years ago, the human race became independent, as the Alphan Empire conceded it could no longer sustain its grip on Earth and withdrew, casting an unprepared humanity adrift on an interstellar sea of troubles. Since then, humanity has struggled mightily to secure its position in a galaxy full of hungry predators, many of whom see Earth as nothing more than a prize to be won. Now, one of the galaxy’s superpowers has set its sights on Earth, launching a covert campaign to weaken and isolate the human race before it moves in for the kill.

Filled with social justice crap. It's all about the wahmen! Unbelievable number of women as ship captains, exos and admirals. All the men are morons, cowards or get killed off, so a independent wahmen can replace them and do a better job. Because strong independent wahmen don't need no man! As you can probably tell, the social justice repeatedly took me out of the story. Plus the author doesn't write very interesting space battles. Don't see myself bothering with this series. You shouldn't either.

Interesting idea that turns into a bad fanfiction
Revisado: 07-22-21
This book left me feeling similar to how I feel after each Hollywood block buster movie lately. The amateurish writing had me getting annoyed with the cartoonishly dumb characters a bit past the halfway point. Still not sure why I finished it besides to see where the stupidity would take me, with governments not believing the U.S. warning of a imminent alien invasion, but still agreeing to build planetary defenses & giving the U.S. control of them, had me wanting to rip my hair out... Or how characters were not believing in the invasion and wondering what the U.S. is gaining by "faking an invasion" DURING the invasion! (with the attack being a non-subtle full-frontal assault) I'm actually starting to get annoyed thinking about it again.

This feels like 1/2 half of a book. just starts moving along and then it's over. Disappointing by a author that usually gives you what you want.

Historia
The starship Freedom was once a mighty warship. Today, she's a tourist attraction. The space wars ended long ago. The Freedom is now a flying museum; the tourists love it. The Changing of the Guard, the starfighter aerobatics, the starboard cannon salute...it's the best show in the galaxy. James King commands the starship Freedom. He hates his job. He was a real soldier once, back when the Freedom was a real warship. He never imagined himself running a tourist trap. Right after Christmas, he plans to retire. Then, on Christmas day, the aliens attack.

What a disappointment
Revisado: 06-19-21
Terrible book. First half of the book is pointless background info. Filled with dumb heroes and villains. Even has a alien spider creature with mommy issues. The level of stupidity among the "heroes" took me out of the story repeatedly. And when you think this book couldn't get dumber with so many clichés, it does. Skip this book!
