Historia
Whether it's fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he's not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses - both legitimate and illegitimate. While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone - until now.

Couldn't Finish

Others would probably love this, but the hyper-controlling male lead made me feel oogy.

Addicting
Revisado: 12-25-11
The combination of Jim Butcher's sarcastic humor and chilling mysteries with James Marsters' electrifying storytelling create an audiobook that is practically impossible to turn off. I listened as I was walking to class, when working out at the gym, and back at my apartment when working on homework. It was an incredibly delightful book and was told so well. It took me a while to stop thinking of the narrator as "Spike," but when I did I got lost in the story. I've already bought the next few books in the series and can't wait to get started. This is a must for anyone who loves a good mystery story. The paranormal aspect is just the icing on the cake.

Meh.
Revisado: 12-25-11
The book was fine. I enjoyed it from start to finish, but it took me several months to make it through. This was a book that I could only tolerate in small doses, it was just to trite and obvious. I wanted to like it, it had all the elements that I want it this kind of book: the mystery, the romance, the doodah of an ex; but the whole was not more than the sum of its parts. It was not a waste of a credit, but just be aware that this is what I often refer to as a "cotton candy" book. Light, obnoxiously sweet, and only to be handled in smallish bites.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Stunning. Would recommend to anyone.
Revisado: 12-25-11
I read the Hunger Games trilogy as they came out years ago and spent a significant amount of time trying to make my mom read them, but she never had the time. I bought the audiobooks for her. Stuck in a car with no escape, my sister and I started the book: She was hooked by the end of the first chapter, and halfway through the book my dad and younger brother were peeved that they'd been left out. So we restarted the book and within a month had finished the entire series. Carolyn McCormick, the narrator, is less than impressive, but after a while she doesn't bother you so much anymore. The book is entrancing. Suzanne Collins effectively creates a world of fear, hunger, and distrust as well as a cast of characters that are so real and memorable that you can't avoid falling in love with them. I haven't been so passionate about a book series since Harry Potter. This is a series for the whole family, from 14 to 56. I can personally vouch for that.

Fun, but unsatisfying
Revisado: 01-25-11
I've enjoyed Dodd's books in the past, but I've always read them. This was the first time I'd listened to one of her books, and I think that may have had something to do with my impatience at times. The book was light, fun, and enjoyable, but not something I'd go out of my way to recommend to friends. The mystery element was present but felt overly contrived and the romance was a little too stilted. However, I listened to it from start to finish and don't feel like I "wasted" a credit.
