Can’t believe I listened as long as I did! So bad.
Revisado: 09-23-23
This was an absolute waste of time. The story is trite, boring and just stupid. I thought it might be a silly yet entertaining listen. I was wrong. I should not have listened to as many episodes as I did.

Maybe if you are a young, lost Christian…

I wish the reviews I’d read mentioned the constant referring to God in this story. I think it was meant to be inspirational but to me came off preachy. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. Story was a sad and probably all to common glimpse into American life.

entertaining read but intolerable narration
Revisado: 10-31-21
I enjoyed this story but it was almost impossible to finish due to the ridiculous narration of the female characters. I am amazed that the narrator wasn't told to just simply read the book aloud. The Female voices were so ridiculous. It sounded as though he were mocking them. It was hard to form a picture in my mind of these women, especially the ones portrayed as attractive, when the voices given them were completely unflattering. This read made me realize I always need to sample a book first the check the narration!

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Enjoyed the history and also this book seems relevant to today’s times
Revisado: 04-16-21
I really enjoyed this book. I love historical fiction. This was a different subject than I usually read. And I loved learning about the history of California and people migrating here during the dust bowl. Very sad but also hopeful. Characters were well developed. And a lot of information was crammed into a story about determination.

Unusual and entertaining.
Revisado: 04-16-21
This book was very different from the books are usually read. I really enjoyed it. I like to listen to really long books while I work and this one sure was long, but I never got bored. The writing was great, characters well developed and a pretty cool story. Even though it was kind of sci-fi it also just had a humanistic feel to it.

Absolute waste of time
Revisado: 04-16-21
I cannot believe I wasted as much time as I did on this book. I have a hard time not finishing a book once I started. This book was so petty, Predictable, and has been told 1 million times. The characters are completely unlikable and their actions are unbelievable. Really nothing to like about it.
