Woke and Secularist

When I was looking for a book that would help in Christian leadership, I assumed a book written by a former pastor would be Christian. However this book quotes secular leadership gurus multiple times moreover than the Bible. I got the feeling that much of this book was plagiarized from Ronald Heifetz. Although Ronald Heifetz was given his due credit for his quotes, the sheer volume of quotes from Heifetz was innumerable.
The premise of the book using Lewis and Clark was a great start. But from there on, the book was downhill. I would recommend The Leadership Book by John MacArthur as a much better read on Christian leadership.
Chapter 14 was also very concerning to me because of the woke and liberal Christianity in the book. I am a firm believer that there are no such thing as races as we are all one race in Adam. I agree that all voices in the church need to be heard and respected. However, the author goes so far as to ignore the biblical command that a senior pastor be limited to males only (1 Timothy 2:12-15 among others).
It should be noted that this author is a trained pastor of the PCUSA which explains his position on this. He does not only mention many times senior pastors being women, but even goes so far as to encourage other churches to do the same since we are now in different times.

Nabeel does a great job at being real and full of grace in this book. I highly recommend it for anyone wishing to know more about the differences between Christianity and Islam. I also recommend it for any Christian wanting to witness to a Muslim. it is so helpful to you understand the pressures that Muslims face and to understand their culture as well.

DeYoung has done a wonderful job and fleshing out this unnecessarily controversial subject in our churches. Culture and society have no right to influence the Bible. God's Word is timeless and should be taken as complete truth and not explained away by human philosophy. I have actually been working in a similar idea for my church and this has taken that burden off as he hits all of the areas I wa
s working on! My only real disagreement cones in head coverings where DeYoung wonderfully exegetes 1 Corinthians 11 but then soft peddles the literal application. Otherwise this is a wonderful book that I will be using with my church!

I read this year's ago and just read it again through the audio version. I am a church planter who has recently planted a family integrated church. Vodie does a wonderful job stating why this model is the most effective and most Biblical. the family unit is invaluable.
