Historia
What is the meaning of life? It's a question every thoughtful person has pondered at one time or another. Indeed, it may be the biggest question of all-at once profound and universal, but also deeply personal. We want to understand the world in which we live, but we also want to understand how to make our own lives as meaningful as possible; to know not only why we're living, but that we're doing it with intention, purpose, and ethical commitment.

Terrific, multi-faceted approach to perennial question
Revisado: 07-03-16
Dr. Garfield made magnificent choices from the literatures of the world's myriad religious, spiritual and philosophical traditions to illustrate the depth and breadth of analysis the question of the meaning of life has spawned. This course has been invaluable to my formulation of a draft answer which will no doubt be revised as my education continues. :)

Historia
Max Pzoras is the poster child for the American dream. The child of Greek immigrants who grew up in a dangerous New York housing project, he triumphed over his upbringing and became a successful Wall Street analyst. Yet on the frigid December night that his mother dies of cancer and he's involved in a violent street scuffle, Max begins to confront the nagging questions he has about life. He begins his search for answers by impulsively traveling to India, first to the foothills of the Himalayas and then to an ashram in the drought-stricken south.
