Historia
Created in the aftermath of World War II, the Central Intelligence Agency relied on women even as it attempted to channel their talents and keep them down. Women sent cables, made dead drops, and maintained the agency’s secrets. Despite discrimination—even because of it—women who started as clerks, secretaries, or unpaid spouses rose to become some of the CIA’s shrewdest operatives.

Revisado: 04-25-24
Sounds like the truth. I have no doubt that women did were disproportionately impacted by the old boys network. I know that the women were tough and very intelligent. The epilogue absolutely ruined the book.

Struggled to finish due to the story and the performance of the reader. The story did not have enough action or "spy stuff".

Historia
Using dolphin sonar-tracking technology, Ex-Navy SEAL Merk Toten stumbles of freshly laid Iranian sea mines while conducting surveillance on two US ships that were hijacked by Somali pirates on the Strait of Hormuz. This discovery occurs on the same day that a fake intelligence report draws three US drones away from the Persian Gulf. Toten investigates the parallel events to uncover a new super-terrorist group made up of a network of Somali warlords, Islamic assailants, Yemen-based terrorists, and ISIS sympathizers.

Story is not plausible. Voice actor, overacting.
Revisado: 03-06-19
Even with a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief, not plausible. A U.S. Navy Lieutenant would not be put in charge of the defense of New York. The CIA is not allowed to operate on U.S. soil and would not so openly. The voice actor has a great voice. However the overacting was almost unbearable. Also, if the author wants to write porn, go to literotica and post it there.

Historia
Meet John Milton. He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder. Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd but you wouldn't want to be on his list. But now, after ten years, he's had enough - there's blood on his hands and he wants out. Trouble is, this job is not one you can just walk away from. He goes on the run, seeking atonement for his sins by helping the people he meets along the way.

How could this get four stars on Amazon
Revisado: 05-06-17
Would you try another book from Mark Dawson and/or David Thorpe?
Mark Dawson, No. David Thorpe, very much yes.
What was most disappointing about Mark Dawson’s story?
Starts with what I spent my money on. A killing of someone that needs to be killed. I understand the twinge of morals. However, kills a police officer but not a kid. It takes him around six hours of listening to get to the next time he kills. Very long and boring character development. Kills off some characters and that's it. No more talk about them or how the loss of those people effect the others in the story. For being the "Best" he is written to be almost clumsy and complacent. It's like Mr. Dawson has never read a book like Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher or others like that.
His weapon details are very fundamental and weapon discipline and tactics is not, at all close, to what a person in that position would be like.
Which character – as performed by David Thorpe – was your favorite?
Ruterford. The reader, David Thorpe, is very good. Great voices and being British his voice lends authenticity to the story. This book is about a British assassin set in London and the areas around, mostly Hackney.
What character would you cut from The Cleaner?
So many, I can't count.
Any additional comments?
I almost stopped listening after the first two hours. I should have.

Way too many political views for a SciFi
Revisado: 04-07-17
This author injects political viewpoints and stereotypes that don't belong in what is a SciFi book. I got up to the point where the agent let the co-conspirator go. Waste of money.
