Just when you thought you knew what was going on, the story takes off in another direction. It was like riding a well designed roller coaster. For real! I got lost in time, listening to the story. Besides hating the way the narrator slaughters the word “garage,” I completely enjoyed this story and the narration.

"Gaa-raadge" stung my ears every time ...

... the narrator said the word. Her pronunciation was so askew that the next several words went unheard. I'd have to rewind the tape and listen again ("ga-raadge" included) to get the line. I liked the story and most of the narration, but the way of saying 'ga-raadge' was unnerving. UPDATE: I've been told that "ga-raaadge" is the British pronunciation (I'm an American). Even if I were British, I would find the sound to be unnerving.

The narrator’s voice didn’t agree with my ears

I loved the content of this book. I struggled to finish it because of the narrator’s voice, his annunciation, and his choice of when to really pounce on a word. His narration seemed to change over time - worse on my ears toward the final third of the book. Ouch!

I realize this is a very subjective opinion... and, my ears were happy the book ended. I will but the hard copy to revisit topics rather than listen again.

Every time the narrator mentioned how he pined after his Nuala Anne...I wanted to hurl. It just felt so fake. I’m sorry, it just did...bleh!

Once I honed the ability to shut my ears when I heard the tidbits about his desire coming up, I was able to enjoy the rest of the story!

I willed myself to pull the content from what I was hearing. The reader's style and performance was displeasing to my ears, brain, and sensibilities. I did not complete the book as an audio book; instead, I will read it offline (the old fashioned way). I will have to work very hard to shake the narrator's condescending communication style from my internal "reading voice."

John Grisham is a masterful storyteller, and Michael Beck a phenomenal narrator. I could see and hear the tale unfolding as if watching a movie inside my mind as I followed their words: Grisham's spoken by Beck. Loved it.

Great story! ...but the "mood music"? Bleh.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and will probably buy the hardcopy book. The music inserted at key or climactic points was terribly distracting. However, that was the only thing I did not like about The Lincoln Lawyer. A cast of "real characters" is richly depicted: Mickey Haller and his ex-wives; cops and criminals; prosecutors and politicians; and, the Triple Evil that was Roulet, his mother, and her personal attorney. In fact, Roulet's character builds to be so awful that you will find yourself right there with Mickey Haller, so disgusted at hearing his name or 'voice' that your words spit from your mouth, betraying your typically tightly controlled actions with the voice of an inner truth about your belief, your life, what and who you love... your very essence.

I am lukewarm - about the ending.

Parts of the story grabbed me, and I "couldn't put it down" to get to bed at a decent time. And then the story winded down - to a rather wimpy ending. It was as if I had attended a storyteller's convention, and someone were rushing this storyteller to get off the stage - leaving me in the audience, bemused, befuddled, and wishing for a better ending.
