Love
Revisado: 06-04-24
Dear Matt
My son Andrew only lived 27 years as a gay man, and he knew unconditional love from his family. Your words have enraged me for what you have encountered in your life. My parents did not accept my beautiful boy which hurt his soul deeply. We are Catholics and I sent him to Catholic schools as we truly did not know until he was 18. He told me he never felt his teachers judge him but I wonder. He lost his life by jumping in the ocean to save a young man he didn’t know. He went directly to the feet of Jesus I believe. He is my hero and his pure love still lives on. Thank you for this treasure of a book and I will do what I can to change the closed minds of those I know and love. Eileene Dillman

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

With Chris at his side, Joe takes us from his beloved son’s gravesite where a trusted friend might sometimes leave an empty Landshark bottle to his bedroom (now Joe’s office) in Winnetka, Illinois which still smells of sage and teen sweat, to the Florida Gulf beaches at night where Joe has found hope and affirmation of his son’s everlasting love through shared dialogues, to In Balance Ranch Academy in Arizona, where Chris was a shining star and a leader for troubled youth, and where he also found healing and the love of an American paint horse.

Historia
On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Over the course of minutes, they would kill 12 students and a teacher and wound 24 others before taking their own lives. For the last 16 years, Sue Klebold, Dylan's mother, has lived with the indescribable grief and shame of that day. How could her child, the promising young man she had loved and raised, be responsible for such horror? And how, as his mother, had she not known something was wrong?

Sue, I too lost a son at 28. I felt all alone in my grief. My daughter gave me your book and you verbalized what I was feeling. I connected with your words and brought me comfort. Thank you for sharing and fo being so strong. People tell me I’m strong and certainly don’t agree but God has guided us both through our grief journey. Thank you

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.
