Historia
In the familiar setting of Holt, Colorado, home to all of Kent Haruf's inimitable fiction, Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters. Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they naturally have known of each other for decades; in fact, Addie was quite fond of Louis's wife.

Historia
On its surface, life in Houston in the 1950s is as you'd expect: stoic fathers, restless teens, drive-in movies, and souped-up Cadillacs. But underneath lies a world shifting under high school junior Aaron Broussard's feet. There's a class war between the "haves" and the "have-nots" as well as a real war, Korea, happening on the other side of the world. It is against this backdrop that Aaron comes of age, trying to understand how first loves, friendship, violence, and power can alter what "traditional America" means for the people trying to find their way in a changing world.

A perfect combination of enlightened poetry and raw descriptions of the darkest side of humanity.

Once more JLB has written a story of life as real as day follows night.
I have to pause often and rewind so I can jot down his words of truth and wisdom. Some of these terms are totally beyond anything I've ever heard, read or encountered.

Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries, meditations, personal anecdotes, and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the listener already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now.

When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

He (she) does it again!
Revisado: 10-31-15
Talented writing can make any subject palatable. Otherwise this subject would have repulsed me to the point of not being able to finish the book and I'm a nurse that has seen a lot!!
The writer makes it appear effortless. It was hard for me to pause and get on with my day.
The sign of a good book, for me, is when I don't want it to end.

But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Burke better than ever!
Revisado: 11-01-12
Would you listen to Creole Belle again? Why?
Yes I would, because it's difficult to read it leisurely. The first listen is for the story and the second is to allow the words to roll about in my head as I visualize, taste and feel the images as described. How can a person move, so easily, from the darkest zone of humanity into the essence of beauty within a few written words? Burke is a MAN who is not afraid of emotions!! Truly a great story teller and poet!!
What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I can listen with my eyes closed and easily visualize the scene as it unfolds.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. I wanted to know what came next and I also wanted to savor it!!
