The story is a hole is incredibly drawn out and boring. quite a contrast from the rest of the stories in this series. You could almost discard this one completely and never know it.

let's talk about chapter 5. I have absolutely loved this Joe Pickett series. however, after you get about 12 novels into this series, I guess the writer has decided to stop developing his main characters. I literally sat through a 20 minute chapter on some Texas hillbilly that literally has nothing important to do with the story. I'm noticing a trend with all of these authors. after they have developed their main character they have nowhere else to go. this was exhausting. I am looking for a story or series that I can connect with the characters. I want drama I want action I want suspense I want romance I want more than a 20 minute chapter on a Texas hillbilly that's talking about killing a pronghorn while sitting outside the back of his house. I could not give two Royal craps about his prison sentence whether or not he was getting scouted by a professional football team or how in the world he relates to Cates ....... I am about to get a refund on this piece of work.

The narrator, as always is incredible. however, I'm beginning to detect a pattern with a lot of these authors. For some reason they will take hours/ chapters to build the story only to have it die at the end. I have read books by Cussler, Clancy, Baldacci, Preston and child... I cannot understand why the stories branch off into 300 different little sub stories. I am literally 2 hours into this book and Dirk Pitt has been mentioned one time. I cannot for the life of me understand how you can build suspense, drama, romance, or any kind of connection with the character when they are literally not mentioned for half of the book. the book. This is exhausting. I do not think there are many authors left who can sell me a character. When I read a book I want to connect with the main character. It is impossible to do when there are literally 50 side stories going on. I don't care about these sub characters who play a 10 or 15 minute part in the story. I feel like I get to know them more than I do the main protagonist.

This has got to be one of the most drawn out, random and blathering stories I've heard in a long time. incredibly disappointing because I love Dean Koontz. This story takes hours to get to the point and still underwhelms at the end. I understand this was written as a pilot for a series of books, but I had absolutely no connection to any of the characters whatsoever. there was way too much background on insignificant characters that either wind up dying or play. no real part in the story itself. I don't even know if I'll be able to listen to the next book.

from beginning to end , the synchrony of the story is almost perfect. there are times that Lamour struggled to close out some of his feature length novels, This was not one of them. This is right up there with the daybreakers and Flint.

I have red and listened to every CJ box Joe Pickett novel. This is by far my least favorite. This was the definition of a place filler story. The entire thing could have been told in about an hour and a half. there's a ton of redundancy and the characters especially the antagonists are very weak. nothing compared to the previous Joe Pickett novels. I hope this is an anomaly going forward. This is a bad bad story

to say I enjoyed the other three novels in this series immensely is an understatement! they were all building towards something and then, this happened. this novel strays so far away from the direction the others were going. and honestly by the end of it it is not even about Emmett Parker. 75% of this story centers on Michael mangus and has no hearkening back to the original stories in any way shape or form. outside of a few brief mentions of Anna turnip seed in the beginning this just goes to crap. there are large portions throughout the story where Emmet Parker is not even mentioned. overall I'm extremely disappointed I was hoping for a conclusion to the turnipseed and Parker relationship as well as more direction to image future as a b i a agent

The Gray Man was extremely entertaining. it was a nice blend of Tom Clancy and a little John wick. fast paced fun and believable. has the feel of a Tom Clancy novel without all of the tedious detail yet still delivers enough to absorb you into the story.

holmes Is maybe in this story for a grand total of 30 minutes. And the reference to notes by Dr Watson is annoying after quite some time.

The performance was fantastic! The narration could not have been better. There was inflection, dramatic pause, and just the right amount of intensity. The story however was rushed to a close. I thought the story overall was very good but the ending needed to be explained a little better.
