Historia
Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. What she finds instead are visions of terrifying mutilated specters that come with increasing regularity.

Excellent blend of horror and comedy
Revisado: 08-07-24
I don't watch horror movies, so upon hearing that this was a modern day take on the character Carrie, I had only limited references (a prom queen covered in blood was about it), I went in very curious and pretty much with a clean slate.
I haven't read anything like it. It was funny, gory, and at times spooky enough for me to avoid reading at night. There were plenty of twists, several I didn't coming, and it gave me just as much cerebral floss as it did entertainment. I wanted to listen anytime I could.
I ended the book with a few questions, and I prefer a very wrapped up tight finish to my reads, yet it didn't take away from the overall experience. I would definitely ready this again.

Historia
One year ago, Isabelle Drake's life changed forever: her toddler son, Mason, was taken out of his crib in the middle of the night while she and her husband were asleep in the next room. With little evidence and few leads for the police to chase, the case quickly went cold. However, Isabelle cannot rest until Mason is returned to her—literally. Except for the occasional catnap or small blackout where she loses track of time, she hasn’t slept in a year. Isabelle's entire existence now revolves around finding him, but she knows she can’t go on this way forever.

This book starts off with a bang and drags you painstakenly through two stories that are both gripping, emotional and thrilling. I really enjoyed the twist.

The trilogy reboot is dark and fragile with great twists. The new characters are full of dimension and contribute well to the new phase in this saga.
The narration is a winner too.

Take a stroll in this period piece that will have you guessing through and through. Every character was so multi-dimensional, so there were barely any lulls in the action and intensity. A great mystery thriller!

A different zombie tale - one with heart
Revisado: 07-17-18
I can't watch zombie movies, but I can read just a small few of stories about them. Mostly because I don't like terror, but mainly because zombies are boring and get too predictable almost instantly. This story was different.
The slow build up to understanding what Melanie is and her part to play in the distopic future was the high point of this novel. While there isn't much time to understand the back story of each character, the book provides enough to create a keen sense of awareness of their importance since there is only a small handful of players in the entire story.
I couldn't put the book down since the suspense and detailed rendering of the "hungries" was so sublime. I thought it was an excellent read.

Chilling and horrifying true story
Revisado: 09-27-17
This book broke my heart, again. It is such a sad story that rings true throughout so much of America's history. The details and the anecdotes are riveting. I wanted to turn away and stop reading at times, especially at the area of the Native Americans who died. A reminder of how we must stand up for what is right everyday. Side note: Ann Marie sounded a bit like Siri, but Will Patton was a great save.

Historia
When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

These are the zombies you've been looking for
Revisado: 09-18-17
Would you listen to Star Wars again? Why?
This book was very satisfying. There were a few loose ends that I'd like to have seen completely wrapped up, but the rest of the material story, effects, and action more than made up for it. This Star Wars story provides enough of the pieces with which we are very familiar and marries it to today's crush on the undead. I was pretty terrified throughout the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars?
The story swell to when you understand the sickness and what it's doing to the crew of the Purge. And of course seeing that a certain "scoundrel" would have an important role in the stories outcome.
Which character – as performed by Sean Kenin – was your favorite?
For once, the droid! I heart Waste.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Of course Star Wars delivers with its sound effects. Once you're back on the Star Destroyer, all bets are off with the action, suspense, and gore.
Any additional comments?
If the Empire is still experimenting with the Blackwing virus anywhere, I'm game on reading that book too.
