Historia
At the tender age of seven, Jess Riley's parents were ripped out of her life by the Tear, a ripple of white light in the sky which randomly transports people from Earth to alternate realities and distant planets once a year. Child abuse trigger warning
Revisado: 09-08-20
The narrator is great. This would have been a pass for me with a bad narrator.
This book reads more like a young adult book and the story is not very original. I did not like the way the author uses the child rape storyline. It's not good. I would absolutely avoid this book if you are sensitive to this.
The writing isn't horrible which bumped it up to two stars. This book ends abruptly on a cliffhanger. It didn't feel like a complete story as the plot didn't move at all throughout the story. I'm not sure I'll continue with this series.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Enjoyed the last third of this story.
Revisado: 04-28-20
I'm going to review the narration first. I'm not a fan of either narrator. The male isn't awful but the book has to be one I really want to read because he doesn't really put much life into the story. Listening at a faster pace helps.
The female narrator is awful. She uses different pronunciations and you have no clue who is speaking. She's okay for male characters but her female characters come across unlikable because of the tone she uses. She also seems to only have a couple of distinct voices so it's confusing who is speaking. I hate giving bad reviews but because of how she reads the female characters I immediately dislike all of them. That's probably not what the author intended.
Now to the story. I'm not a huge fan of this author. I loved the first few Mistborn books so I keep hoping to like his other books. This book is super confusing because of the different perspectives and the flashbacks. The first half is so slow. I didn't really care about anyone at all until almost the very end.
I think this book could have used a better editor or maybe it's just how this author writes but I feel like I should be interested by reading the first few chapters. I started this book 5 times. It was recommended to me so I stuck with it on try 6 and I'm not sure if I'm going to read the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed the last part and finally cared about the people in the story. There is so much that isn't explained that I'm assuming will be shown in the next book. I'm not even sure who the main characters are and you'd think that would be obvious after reading it.
I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 because the writing isn't terrible and I did enjoy parts of it. I think you have to be a huge fan of this author to really enjoy this one.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-11-20
This series was very difficult to follow. I enjoyed the writing but the story had too much going on. One huge issue I had with the story is that it felt like the characters aged too quickly. I'm still not sure how old they were supposed to be but they seemed to be children in the beginning of the series and older adults at the end.
The ending was predictable. I almost never get it right because I'm not a great storyteller so I was surprised at how easily I figured it out. There was no twists or turns. No surprises at all.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this book. It's worth reading if you like time travel fantasy religious books. The story, although confusing, isn't bad and has some original magical elements.

Murderinos will love it!
Revisado: 06-02-19
Fans of the podcast will love the audio book version of SSDGM. Warning, you will cry during the first chapter.
I'm not sure if I would recommend this to someone not familiar with the podcast. There are a lot of inside jokes and very little True Crime.
It feels like the book is written for the younger audience. I'm Karen's age and wasn't looking for advice. I was hoping for more personal stories and more murder. I did enjoy the book and will recommend it to my Murderino daughter. As a first book written by non-authors it was pretty good. I am not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much without the audio. It feels much more natural to listen to the ladies tell their stories.
Overall I'm very happy I purchased it and would love to have a part two with more personal stories. Great job ladies!

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Lovely Story!
Revisado: 10-06-18
I live in a Southern coastal marsh/woodland area. I'm also a naturalist. I was so pleased not only with the accuracy of the book but the way the author puts the reader into the marsh in a beautiful way. I felt like I was right there with Kya feeding the gulls. I love how the story flows and will definitely keep an eye out for more from this talented author.
I could add more about the mystery of the story but anything I say will give hints and this book is better when the reader knows very little about the story. So stop reading reviews and read this book.

Another Excellent Book by Ann Rule
Revisado: 06-16-18
This is another excellent book by Ann Rule. Her stories are as much about the victims as the serial killer. The last quarter of the book was chilling as it includes the confession of Ridgeway. The end when the victim's family and judge speak at trial is heartbreaking.
If you are interested in True Crime this book is a must read.

Excellent & Compelling True Crime Story
Revisado: 06-09-18
I really loved the narrator for this book. She tells the story in a way that is soothing. Perfect for this story about a horrific serial killer.
The author is a really good writer and her personal relationship with Ted Bundy makes this a very interesting book. It feels very honest and I think that is important for this particular story. It didn't feel exploitive at all. If you are interested in True Crime I highly recommend this book.
