Scalzi does it again
Revisado: 07-21-24
John Scalzi has a twisted mind that looks at world events, sees where we’re headed, then tweaks things just enough that you said, “Pfft! That could never happen.” Then it happens. Not quite like he writes it, but close enough to make you wonder what ELSE he knows.

The further adventures of Smith and April Malone includes many improbable elements, including the Rough Rider himself, all woven together to create a story that kept me engaged through two airports in a cross country journey. Definitely worth the listen, and even better than the first book!

So much torture and pain
Revisado: 02-17-23
I really enjoyed the TV series and some of Crouch’s other work, so I was excited to listen to the book. Midway through chapter 17 and the story got so dark I tried to return the book. But it’s been more than three days, so I’m stuck with it. I’ll try slipping past the yucky stuff. If the story gets better, with less killing and torture, I’ll edit this review.

I couldn’t stop listening
Revisado: 10-08-21
I started this book because it seemed like it would be cute and funny. I mean, a haunted big box store? And I’ve been a Bronson Pinchot fan since “Perfect Strangers”. I was all set for a story I could pick up and put down, listen to around other books. What I got was a cute and funny horror story with just enough suspense and energy to keep me listening all night. One of the marks of a good book is how much you think about it afterward. I’ll be thinking about penitents and “the chair” all day at work tomorrow. That is, if I can get to sleep tonight.

Definitely worth the listen
Revisado: 10-02-21
John Scalzi is a master at creating worlds and making things all fit together. In Metatropolis, he and four other world builders take us to the not-too-distant future where our consumption-based economy has turned the world upside down and people and finding new ways to thrive and survive. It’s an incredibly hopeful vision of an almost post-apocalyptic world.

Please re-record!
Revisado: 05-16-21
This is a great story, but it’s really hard to listen to. The narrator does a good job when reading in the characters’ voices, but reads every sentence in the rest of the story in exactly the same cadence. It’s monotonous and distracts from the story. Some of his previous performances were much better, some were just as bad. This story deserves a narrator as engaging as the characters.

As the new story begins, Leeds and his "aspects" are hired by I3 (Innovative Information Incorporated) to recover a corpse stolen from the local morgue. But there's a catch. The corpse is that of a pioneer in the field of experimental biotechnology, a man whose work concerned the use of the human body as a massive storage device.
