Historia
In the 1970s, the ultimate trip for any backpacker was the storied “Hippie Trail” from Istanbul to Kathmandu. A 23-year old Rick Steves made the trek, and like a travel writer in training, he documented everything along the way: jumping off a moving train, making friends in Tehran, getting lost in Lahore, getting high for the first time in Herat, battling leeches in Pokhara, and much more. The experience ignited his love of travel and forever broadened his perspective on the world.

Rick Steeves storytelling is excellent
Revisado: 02-13-25
I enjoyed the entire book. i have always enjoyed Rick Steves books, shows and talks. I loved hearing about the adventures, as well as, his insights and I appreciate his thought provoking views. I have traveled a lot, but not until a few years after the period in this book so wasn't able to do the Hippie Trail.
I know this will be a book listen to over and over.
As always...thank you Rick!

Part autobiography, part self-help, part confession, part celebration of being a common-or-garden woman, part collection of synonyms for nunny, Sarah Millican's debut audiobook delves into her super normal life with daft stories, funny tales and proper advice on how to get past life's blips - like being good at school but not good at friends, the excitement of IBS and how to blossom postdivorce.

Historia
In the 80s and 90s, surf culture was toxic, especially towards women. But Pauline Menczer - a dirt-poor, chronically ill, freckle-faced teen from Bondi - defied insults and intimidation to ride the waves. The reason: she simply loved to surf. But when Pauline's determination propelled her onto the pro circuit, her battle for acceptance and equality didn't end there. The endemic sexism of the industry meant prize money for women was a pittance, while sponsors ignored her because she was a lesbian and didn't have the beach babe look.

Revisado: 06-22-24
Exceptional human, her story is well written and narrated. A heroine of the most amazing level. I love the movie Girls Can't Surf and I love this book even more. Pauline's story is heartbreaking, inspiring and honest. I will read this and watch the movie many times. As a female who loved surfing, albeit on a much smaller scale when I was younger, it fills my soul with happiness, ignighting memories and sadness for the fight female surfers faced during the years covered in this book. And makes me ever thankful for the bravery and persistentance that has moved women's surfing to its current level. Bravo and thank you.

Brought from England on Eleanor’s fateful voyage to the New World, her book was passed down through the fifteen generations of daughters who followed as they came of age.

Historia
For centuries, mariners have spun tales of gargantuan waves, 100-feet high or taller. Until recently scientists dismissed these stories - waves that high would seem to violate the laws of physics. But in the past few decades, as a startling number of ships vanished and new evidence has emerged, oceanographers realized something scary was brewing in the planet’s waters. They found their proof in February 2000, when a British research vessel was trapped in a vortex of impossibly mammoth waves in the North Sea - including several that approached 100 feet.

Not about surfing
Revisado: 07-31-21
I keep looking for surfing book that's as terrific as Barbarian Days. This is not it. There is very little about surfing, surf spots or the culture of surfing. This is just a litany of me, me, me. I expected more and was sad that it didn't deliver. I fell asleep repeatedly and even relistening found it droll and boring. Narrator wasn't great either.

Love the storyline, not so much the narrator
Revisado: 06-14-21
I adore this series both in print and electronic mediums. I do not care for new narrator. The accents were off a few times. There were a number of over the top, high pitched voices which sounded forced.
