Historia
Ruth Jefferson is a labor and delivery nurse at a Connecticut hospital with more than 20 years’ experience. During her shift, Ruth begins a routine checkup on a newborn, only to be told a few minutes later that she’s been reassigned to another patient. The parents are white supremacists and don’t want Ruth, who is African American, to touch their child. The hospital complies with their request, but the next day, the baby goes into cardiac distress while Ruth is alone in the nursery. Does she obey orders or does she intervene?

Uncomfortable. Thought-provoking. Transformative.
Revisado: 08-25-20
This is the first Jodi Picoult novel I've read. it won't be the last. 10 stars. I cried. I paused and thought hard about the story and struggled to return to a book that held up an ugly image in its mirror. Mine.
Take your time reading this...with tissues at hand. Set it aside at times and chew over the content like the tough gristle racism is. Every white person should read this; so should other races. Perhaps then we would have a common starting point to discuss this chasm between us. I know ten thousand times more now about it than I did when I began this book.
I have stepped my toe into this raging river of understanding race. With eyes pried slightly open, I stretch out my hands to the torrent awaiting me, hopeful of patience and support of humankind of all races.
Thank you, Jodi Picoult, for my tears, my roiling gut, the inability to ever return to my ignorance.

Historia
At the end of the 1980s, when the Cold War ended, many, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, believed that democracy had triumphed politically once and for all. Yet nearly 30 years later, the direction of history no longer seems certain. A repressive and destructive force has begun to reemerge on the global stage - sweeping across Europe, parts of Asia, and the United States - that to Albright, looks very much like fascism.

A MUST-READ IN THE TRUMP ERA
Revisado: 10-21-18
If you only read the chapters about Mussolini and Hitler and the last two or so chapters, you will get "woke" like you've never been so before. Albright was there as the Axis developed and has witnessed the rise of nativist, nationalism, isolationism, and the rise of "otherism" and the unleashing of racism during the 2016 campaign and since.
That Madeleine Albright is seriously concerned should be enough to make the rest of us shake in our boots.
A MUST READ .

Historia
Mermaid Annika is from the sea, and it is there she must return after her quest to find the stars. New to this world, her purity and beauty are nothing less than breathtaking, along with her graceful athleticism, as her five new friends discovered when they retrieved the fire star. Now, through space and time, traveler Sawyer King has brought the guardians to the island of Capri, where the water star is hidden. And as he watches Annika in her element, he finds himself drawn to her joyful spirit.

Anika a bit grating
Revisado: 01-22-17
An overall good NR story. But the mermaid--both written and performed--was repetitive, dragging down flow.

Historia
Maggie O'Brien, a nurse and medic on a SWAT team, has a thirst for justice, and a chip on her shoulder. She lives in the shadow of her father, a famous (or infamous) cop. Is she more like him than she wants to admit? The question hits home when Maggie feels the desire - as all police, nurses, doctors and medics sometimes do - to dispense her own brand of justice. Soon she finds evidence that someone else may be acting on the same desire.

One of her best--if not The best
Revisado: 09-08-16
Dreyer writes suspense with a little deft humor AND she gets the details right. Maggie is the trauma nurse you want when you roll into an ER--quick, smart, take-charge, caring. That she's an overachiever with a bruised soul, she covers with the best-written dialogue you'll find anywhere. Dreyer maintains the suspense throughout, forcing you to miss appointments and burn dinner as you MUST keep reading (or listening in my case).
I will plead once again for Eileen Dreyer to return to this genre!!!
