AI voices make a story dry
Revisado: 03-12-24
The AI voice has no feeling in the narration. The book was pretty good until they started justifying the South’s reason for the civil war. A simple google search can pull up the Declaration of the Causes of Seceding States to see that Slavery was the issue. The book goes out of its way to say slavery wasn’t the issue, pointing out blacks owning slaves (without noting they were most likely family that they couldn’t free when manumission became practically illegal), blacks fought for the confederacy (most had no choice, they were conscripted or were taken along to serve their enslavers), and spreading the tale of docile “darkies” who wanted to be slaves.

Historia
Born in West Africa in the mid-eighteenth century, Maryam Prescilla Grace—a.k.a “Momma Grace” will live a long, wondrous life marked by hardship, oppression, opportunity, and love. Though she will be “gifted” various names, her birth name is known to her alone. Over the course of 100-plus years, she survives capture, enslavement by several property owners, the Atlantic crossing when she is only eleven years of age, and a brief stint as a pirate’s ward, acting as both a spy and a translator.

Great all around!

I couldn’t sleep until I finished this book. So many highs and lows. The author did an amazing job of painting the picture.

Couldn’t put it down
Revisado: 03-04-23
I listened to this book in one day. I even woke up at 5am to finish it. It’s one of the best I have “read” and I can’t believe I stumbled across it the same way I stumbled across The Yellow Wife. Being a Philly girl myself it was great hearing about neighborhoods I knew from the 79s and 80s from a 40s and 50s view. This was well written and the narrators were amazingly great. I need to hear more please and thank you.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Historia
Dustin “Hardcore” Cutler didn’t have dreams or goals. A troubled past led Core to do something irredeemable. The only thing he and the men of the Resurrection MC could do was vow to live their lives making up for an unforgivable act. And they did. This duty leads Core to being a part of a covert protection detail, looking after Hellen Moynihan when trouble is coming to town. At first, Core finds this dynamo of a woman intriguing, but he’s decided she’s off-limits. Then Hellen and her friend wade into a multi-state swindling scheme.

Still my favorite author but…
Revisado: 12-18-22
I feel sad saying that the newer KA books are either reformulated older stories or just not developed in the way I’m used to seeing from KA. This story was okay. Mainly it was background noise while I did home projects. I was intrigued enough to finish but did have that I hate it’s over feeling more like thank God it’s done. Please Kit, go back to your original style.
