Historia
After artist Claire Beaudry Chase is attacked and left for dead in her home on the Connecticut coast, she doesn’t know who she can trust. But her well-connected husband, Griffin—who is running for governor—is her prime suspect. Just before the attack, Claire was preparing for an exhibit of her shadow boxes, one of which clearly accuses Griffin of a violent crime committed 25 years ago.

Audio review
Revisado: 05-17-22
Narrators were great but the story was a bit hard to follow at first due to the time skipping back and forth. I don’t think it would have been a problem in written form but in audio, it was a bit confusing.
The story itself was fine once it got running

Historia
All Nick wants to do is take his dying father for a perfect father-son weekend in the Scottish Highlands. It’s not much to ask, is it? A log cabin, a roaring fire, a bottle of fine whiskey, and two days to paper over the cracks in their relationship. However, Nick didn’t plan on making the trip with a dead neighbour in the back of his car. Or the neighbour’s dog. He really didn’t plan on being pursued by a psychotic female assassin intent on collecting body parts.

Skipped the tacky parts
Revisado: 03-15-22
Long discussions of sh*t and detailed descriptions of torture are not my cup of tea. Could have done without them. However the basic story line was interesting and the narration was excellent.

Taryn Moore is young, beautiful, and brilliant…so why would she kill herself? When Detective Frankie Loomis arrives on the scene to investigate the girl’s fatal plunge from her apartment balcony, she knows in her gut there’s more to the story. Her instincts are confirmed when surprise information is revealed that could have been reason enough for Taryn’s suicide - or a motive for her murder.

All men are lying cheating bas*****
Revisado: 02-18-22
This theme is consistently repeated throughout the story. I would have trashed it early on if I hadn’t been listening to it instead. Every female in the story has been betrayed by a man. Even the back story of Classical Literature deals with this same theme.
A love obsessed co-ed is dumped by her boyfriend, ends up seducing her college professor, blackmails him when he tries to end it and is found dead in an apparent suicide. The story is told in a Before and After the murder style which was not hard to follow.
If it hadn’t been for the constant drumming in of how rotten men are, it would have been a good novel.

Narrator needs acting classes
Revisado: 01-07-22
The plot & story line are decent - if you are willing to stick with it..
POV gets confusing at times & the 3 sentence chapters were a little hard to get used to.
Yes, this story falls into the hard-boiled detective genre but the narrator gives an over the top presentation that had me considering to quit listening after 15 minutes. A little subtlety & change of voice pitch when changing characters would help immensely.

A heroine with tunnel vision
Revisado: 12-03-19
I really would have liked to give this book a 5 star rating but the author's need to have the heroine ignore obvious clues about the murder's identity got extremely frustrating. Everything else about the book was first rate.

Stupid characters
Revisado: 09-05-19
How many times will the author spare the life of the enemy only to have said enemy rise up to create havoc once more.
Narration is whiny & high pitched brogue. Hard to tell characters apart after awhile.

Narration is painful
Revisado: 06-27-19
I really liked the plot & story line. The characters are well developed and their interaction is enjoyable. The world building was consistent and believable.
The only problem I had was with the narrator. It actually got painful for me to listen to him. Seems he either does a whiney, high pitched Irish - or was it Scottish - brogue,. Or he does a low pitched, raspy one with a guttural under tone. The cadence may have been appropriate for the characters but the tone and timbre were annoying.
