It's a real good story. It's unusual that the animals act like humans a teency bit.

I can't imagine that this could possibly be any better in my imagination. The voice of Ray Porter was just perfect. This is not even the genre that I was really excited to listen to - scifi. I was intending to listen with my teenage son. I ended up listening on my own on late night long drive commutes where the danger was that I'd get too sleepy to get home safe. There was no problem. This story is better than coffee. It kept me totally alert. It was just phenomenal. A small part of me wanted to suss out where science was fiction and see the made-upness of the story, but I couldn't invest in that endeavor. It was satisfying to accompany Dr. Grace through all of the scientific twists and turns and feel like I got to experience the problem solving and geaky pleasure of it all, even though it is not my thing in regular life. How can you possibly make geaky science fascinating to a regular person?! If you listen to this with your adolescents or teens, you might get them piqued on really seeking out the creative and beautiful aspects of science. I didn't expect to love this as much as I did, and, I did tear up, even for the impossible and inhuman situations that became so personal and true.

Radio edit of historical Terkel interview samples

This is a wonderful little window into the kind of work Studs Terkel was responsible for. I forget the author of this work, but it sounds like a polished NPR piece. A real journalist was given access to Terkel's original interview recording material used for his book about work. Some interesting snippets are featured, with introductions to each one. Attention is called to the work life of a variety of different people, but also to Terkel himself as a legendary figure for his ability to elicit candid interviews with just about any kind of person you could imagine. I am a small town reporter myself, and this reminds me of the kind of curiosity and high human regard that can make even the simplest of people seem as though they are also providing of the most profound insight and approach to life. I don't think you can enjoy Studs Terkel unless you are a genuinely curious person who is willing to be surprised by what you discover in any person you might cross paths with. There are many who wish they could be privy to hear about the life of the any and many they might meet around any corner, mundane or magnificent that it may be. This is a nice little taste of what that might be like. Having a journalist's hat is a nice convenience to allow one to legitimately take interest in another, but, imagine that coming to turn the stranger into the proverbial neighbor need not require the privilege of an occupational excuse. There are a great many people worth knowing all around us, and hopefully this may remain an inspiration. I do wish I could hear the unedited interviews, but this is a nice polished taste.

I enjoyed this with my teen. It was much better than expected. The paired women narrators were easy to confuse for me. The second pairing was really good!

Good story. Bad skipping. Why?!

The 14 year old and mother listened to this series. I don't know why, but it skipped too much. Maybe it doesn't for everyone? Really enjoyed the story and were able to imagine what's in the gaps.

Concise guide to the process of focusing

This is really a functional guide to focusing. You use your felt sense in your body to be able to apprehend how you feel and the nature of an issue. You find the felt sense of it in your body, as well as finding an expression or image that accurately represents it. Then, when you have this awareness and focus in relation to it, you can ask it questions, find out what it wants and needs. It's sort of magical how things change. I love that it is somatic and imaginative, even though imaginative means an accurate and true imagination, not made up. The first part of the book explains the process and explores the pieces of it. At, I think, chapter 24,begins a concise run through of the process that you can pause as needed. I bookmarked it, so that I can easily do the process when I want to. I can see the influence and relevance of this in fields like somatic psychology, trauma work, body work, shamanism, dance, somatic experiencing, meditation, art, and much more.

I was curious about Martha Beck, and this was a way for me to experience her. This is an exercise for imagining and experiencing an ideal day. I usually don't slow down to do this kind of thing, but I did this time because I am ready for insight into how to help my life develop. She warns that you may experience surprises, and I certainly did. It wasn't an experience where I made choices. It was more like having a waking dream. That's why you shouldn't multitask. Now I feel like I can go to this place and that the things that I did are real. I can feel what it feels like just thinking about it. It makes me feel happy and awake to think about it. I plan to repeat this experience over time regularly. I've been sharing it with others too.

This book is different from the hard copy of it. This is actual audio of James Hillman rain by from his work and discussing it. This was actually my first exposure to Hillman, and I don't know why it took me so long to hear about him. I am so stimulated by his unique perspective and expression. He's one of those thinkers whose words and ideas can be beautiful, as well as immediately change the way that the world looks once he's spoken. I consider this audiobook a true treasure. I immediately bought the Kindle too, and they are both full of notes. The quality varies, and you cannot always hear what the audience says, but it doesn't detract from just how incredible it is to sit in on this experience. I have found that a great book can be ruined by a bad narrator, but Hillman is brilliant as himself. I am so grateful for this inspiring entry into Hillman.

My 12 year old and I listened to this series. We love Holky Black and had listened to the curse worker series before this. My son rates this the best series that we have listened to yet. I thought that the curse workers was much more clever and smart, but the teenage romance scenes of that one had been too squirmy for my 12 year old.
