Historia
The story of John Self and his insatiable appetite for money, alcohol, drugs, porn, and more. Ceaselessly inventive and thrillingly savage, it is a tale of life lived without restraint, of money and the disasters it can precipitate.

Rare audiobook that improves on the original
Revisado: 08-27-22
Martin Amis is a master of ironic dark comedy and wordplay, his work has to be tricky to master on audiobook, but this narrator is a virtuoso and listening to the audiobook of Money is a joy. Only audiobook I think I’ve returned to for second and third listens. The novel itself isn’t for everyone, but if you Ike “bleakly hilarious” I highly recommend this recording.

Great for learning pronunciation and basic phrases
Revisado: 02-11-22
As a Spanish speaker I bought this to prepare for an upcoming trip to Portugal, primarily so that I could better pronounce Portuguese place names, menu items etc. and not just say them in Spanish. I’m extremely satisfied as these lessons were exactly what I was looking for. I’m hoping that the next volumes cover some more basic requests like ordering in restaurants and asking how much things cost. The conversations in this volume cracked me up a couple of times, as the American dude kept fishing for comments from the Portuguese woman about his Portuguese (it works lol). Recommended!

Historia
Candace Chen, a millennial drone self-sequestered in a Manhattan office tower, is devoted to routine. With the recent passing of her Chinese immigrant parents, she’s had her fill of uncertainty. She’s content just to carry on: She goes to work, troubleshoots the teen-targeted Gemstone Bible, watches movies in a Greenpoint basement with her boyfriend. So Candace barely notices when a plague of biblical proportions sweeps New York.

Tough but amazing
Revisado: 02-09-21
I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book given the subject matter, but instead of just being a depressing reflection of our current times it felt to me like a cathartic reflection of all our anxieties while allowing for hope. The ease with which I identified with the narrator, a great character, was matched by a real curiosity for her individual experience as a Chinese-American. And as with all great apocalyptic/disaster literature, the triggering event is only one factor in a constellation of factors that affect the characters’ lives. Also, it seems impossible but yeah this was published in 2018! A movie adaptation is inevitable, I hope it’s a good one.

Historia
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.

Knew I was in good hands as soon as I recognized his voice
Revisado: 05-24-20
As soon as I began this I was thrilled to recognize the voice of the narrator/professor as the narrator of a prior audiobook I read (maybe from the Great Courses) on the Industrial Revolution. Absolutely perfect balance of scholarly information and fascinating details, with engaging but not exaggerated narration. Even if you’re not already interested in Prince Albert, this is a top notch example of overlaying broad social history onto a specific biographical narrative. I hope Audible does more like this!

Historia
Back in 1985, Frank Mackey was a nineteen-year-old kid with a dream of escaping his family's cramped flat on Faithful Place and running away to London with his girl, Rosie Daly. But on the night they were supposed to leave, Rosie didn't show. Frank took it for granted that she'd dumped him-probably because of his alcoholic father, nutcase mother, and generally dysfunctional family. He never went home again. Neither did Rosie. Then, twenty-two years later, Rosie's suitcase shows up.

fantastic in all ways
Revisado: 01-31-20
They refer to these books as a series, but they are only loosely connected and you can read any one of them on its own. That said, when I finished the last book in the series, I was like "I wish they would make Frank [minor character] the protagonist of his own book." And wouldn't you know, he's the focus and narrator of this next book, which is a great book! Like all the Tana French novels, it's a well-paced police/detective investigation with truly complex and interesting characters. It's very witty and I laughed multiple times, although it's got some serious drama. It also touches on issues like class, gentrification, family, parenting, contemporary Ireland, etc. in ways that are meaningful but not heavy-handed. And the narrator is one of the best audiobook narrators I've ever heard. He has a whole spectrum of accents to differentiate the characters, but it never veers toward "radio play" or overacting. He even sings a few times and has a lovely voice lol. Can't recommend this book enough if you want an intriguing page turner that doesn't insult your intelligence.

Great story, perfect narration
Revisado: 02-09-19
This story drew me in quickly due to the characters and the fast-moving plot. The narrators were excellent; sometimes when there are multiple narrators I worry that it’s going to be like a radio play with excessive drama (which sometimes happens), but these were all talented novel narrators who were perfectly directed to be on the same page amongst themselves so you really felt like they were all voices from the same narrative. Excellent audiobook

Historia
From the best-selling author of Atonement, Nutshell is a classic story of murder and deceit, told by a narrator with a perspective and voice unlike any in recent literature. A bravura performance, it is the finest recent work from a true master. To be bound in a nutshell, see the world in two inches of ivory, in a grain of sand. Why not, when all of literature, all of art, of human endeavour is just a speck in the universe of possible things?

Historia
A stunning first novel that is an evocative reimagining of a World War II civilian disaster. On a March night in 1943, on the steps of a London Tube station, 173 people die in a crowd seeking shelter from what seemed to be another air raid. When the devastated neighborhood demands an inquiry, the job falls to magistrate Laurence Dunne. In this beautifully crafted novel, Jessica Francis Kane paints a vivid portrait of London at war.

Transcends the novel-of-manners about aristocrats genre....a study of human relationships and pride. Won't forget for a long time. Narrator does a great job differentiating among characters without falling into caricature.
