Bloody Magic
Revisado: 06-28-19
*I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
This book, like Dead of Night, jumps perspective between Christoph and Talia, but adds two new characters Athena and Luca. Athena is a witch who lives by herself in a mansion, in a swamp outside of New Orleans. After being led by the magic map to her house, Christop, Talia and Libby are taken in by Athena. After hearing their story she agrees to help them on their journey of finding the cure to the blood curse. Luca, after reconnecting with Athena, struggles with his upbringing of hate towards vampires and unexpected consequences are dealt out. With the hate between witches and vampires coming to a head the characters find themselves in the thick of the conflict.
This book does a better job than the first with setting up the plot as well as the character development. It makes for an engaging story I couldn't put down. I especially enjoyed learning a bit of the puzzle to the creation of Vampires and why there may be a cure. The narration was done well, and there was some differentiation in accents.
I am excited to see how James Agee Jr. depicts Paris in the next book. And where the journey takes the group as they get closer to the answers about the blood curse cure.

A quick bite that will leave you wanting more.

*I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
Each chapter jumps perspectives between the two main characters, Christoph and Talia. Christoph is a vampire with a more traditional power set. He can turn into a bat, make short "teleports", has super strength, and he can even go unseen. What is the downside to all of this? Christoph's family wants nothing more than to be human. They own a funeral home but still often struggle getting enough blood. Talia is a human dragged around by her transient parents. Her grandfather's death has brought them to Frederickton, Virginia. Here she keeps crossing paths with Christoph and soon their fates become intertwined. After a chance purchase of an enchanted poetry book and the discovery of its secrets, there may actually be a way to reverse the vampiric curse.
I did find at points in the story that some background facts or sub plots were popped in with no expectation or foreshadowing. I also would have liked the pacing of the story to be a little slower with more time given to character development. The narration was done well, though it was done with no changes in voice for the different characters.
Overall, I am excited to see where this series takes me and what adventures the characters get up to on their hunt for this blood curse cure.

Historia
In a future where time travel has been outlawed, a black market exists for anyone with the money, connections, and nerve to request items from days past. As a Runner for one of the underground syndicates that now controls the timewaves, Stassi 2446-89 has seen it all: the fall of Rome, the rise of Hitler, the end of democracy, the establishment of time tourism, and the devastating consequences of it. Her job is to seamlessly slip through the past, in search of items of value to the syndicate's clientele.

Love the plot
Revisado: 03-31-17
Where does The Syndicate rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
When comparing it to Claudia Gray's Firebird series and Rosa Walker's The Chronos Files I would say this book comes out on top. There seem to be several plots going on and I can't wait to see how they play out. The Narrator is not the best I have listened to but, she grew on me somewhat near the end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Syndicate?
All the twists and turns. This was not a predictable book and I love the personal journey Stassi has undertook to find out who she is and how her locket fits into it.
Which character – as performed by Andrea Harbin – was your favorite?
Hadley
