As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

Revisado: 03-23-25
So many things about Haymitch come clear.
Heartbreaking account of his past and why he’s been shut off for so long. Also what the Capitol has committed to other Tributes through the years.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Very clever!
Revisado: 01-09-25
I’m a clear Trekkie. So much of this book struck me as clever. It’s one of those things that strikes some of us who try to create stories.
Highly recommended!
I immediately purchased Fuzzy Nation upon its recommendation. 😁

Historia
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.

Detective story with a juicy brain center!
Revisado: 12-12-24
I enjoy Scalzi’s work as they are detective stories. I especially enjoy his writing surrounding the brain. I survived a severe TBI and fight epilepsy each day. This one has seizures that take someone down. I enjoy his work.
I’m looking very much forward to his next installment of the Lock In series!
They have been read by Will Wheaten. He does a magnificent job with the storytelling and the various voices.

Historia
For more than two years, Miep Gies and her husband helped hide the Franks from the Nazis. Like thousands of unsung heroes of the Holocaust, they risked their lives each day to bring food, news, and emotional support to the victims. From her own remarkable childhood as a World War I refugee to the moment she places a small, red-orange, checkered diary -- Anne's legacy -- in Otto Frank's hands, Miep Gies remembers her days with simple honesty and shattering clarity.

Excellent narrative from the helpers of that time!
Revisado: 07-06-24
I found Anne’s story as a 5th grade student when it was first released. I added this story when I discovered it after it won a Best Documentary in 96 & I was watching with two young girls from my neighborhood.
When it won they said, “Who’s Anne Frank?”
I was agog! I said,” We’re fixing this now!” And bought both of them Anne’s diary. We talked about it when we had time together.
Personally I studied EVERYTHING. Including buying this book in print and watching the movie.
Narrator is soothing, but it’s gut wrenching knowing how this world is moving in the same direction again. I’m disabled now.
Just a few weeks after studying her story so deeply in 96 I received a severe TBI & epilepsy. While in the hospital the doctors wanted to send me home, but my mother got through to me I wasn’t well and these doctors, who I thought were Nazis were asking my mom to take me home. She refused.
I’m sorry to write my story here.

Historia
In Normal Broken, Kelly Cervantes isn't trying to tell you what to do, how to feel, or the right way to heal. She's also not flinging sunny thoughts, vibes, and prayers at you. After losing her daughter to epilepsy, she knows that grief is many things. Something everyone will have to deal with. But never linear. Just as what we are grieving varies, so do our journeys to process it. Normal Broken was born out of this desire to meet people where they are in their grief journeys, to lend a hand, or maybe to just sit in the dark with them.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!
I relate to everything!
Feeling the guilt when I feel joy then realize the only reason why I could feel this joy is because my dad has passed away.
I couldn’t have my own place if dad hadn’t left me funds behind. Half of my income each month is from what he left me.
I do things to honor him as best as I can. When I feel the need to talk or cry with him I drink out of his favorite mug.
I’m going to give your book out to people this year. As many as possible. Everyone has experienced a loss & can relate to your words on grief/loss.
I’ll suggest to my apartment complex to use your book for the one they distribute sometimes. This location is different from my previous complex (same owner) and I hope they’ll take it to heart.
I hope for my local library to purchase copies as well. I loved this suggestion. I’ll get a copy or two & donate them if they don’t sound enthusiastic.
Yours is to better grasp grief as the layperson.
I know I’ll be doing the writing prompts. I’ll also move some of what I’m writing here to my review of the book on Amazon.

Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school. Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

I’m impressed by his story
Revisado: 01-12-23
I’m not normally a follower of the Royal family, but I wanted to listen to something told by Harry himself and not through the eyes of others.
I’m very impressed. Now I’ve heard the book I believe I will purchase the printed version as well and read it, too. I can say I only do this with a few books. It’s difficult for me to physically read as I have a visual vertigo (PPPD - vestibular migraine) which makes reading difficult.
Thank you for telling us your story, Harry. It was most necessary.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. I much prefer the other performance of this book. This reader makes everyone sound exactly the same. At least with Carolyn McCormick I can tell the difference between the characters. Please allow people who wish to download the other version. I would LOVE to gift this book (only the Carolyn McCormick version) to friends and I cannot. It’s no longer available in the downloads.

Gorman: honest, from the heart & with words most of us cannot find.
Revisado: 03-30-21
I have told everyone I know of Amanda. She speaks directly to and from the heart in words so eloquent I watched her reading of the poem at the inauguration ceremony hundreds of times. When I noticed she had written (into Audible) those words I was likely one of the first to reserve a copy. Thank you for your words, representing our time today. I live in Georgia and we are now continuing our fight, as are everyone, for maintaining our rights to vote. I will listen to this daily. I can guarantee you.

I Listen primarily to audiobooks and watched a video of how this one was done. Jim Dale read it in a single sitting as the author couldn’t get a break when it occurred.
Also once I listened to this on 9/11 near the Ground Zero until I was allowed into the location. I was stunned to find Jim’s reading cued with the bells chiming. I completed Bikeman before entering the museum for the first time. 2015.
