Historia
To uncover the fate of the thousands being interred at a mysterious Nazi camp on the border of the Reich, a young Polish resistance fighter named Witold Pilecki volunteered for an audacious mission: intentionally get captured and transported to the new camp to report back on what was going on there. But gathering information was not his only task: he was to execute an attack from inside - where the Germans would least expect it. The name of the camp was Auschwitz.

An Honorable Life
Revisado: 08-07-19
This book has so many features of the horror of Auschwitz from an eye witness who put himself at risk to warn the world. A world that didn’t listen. The narrator is able to pronounce all of the names (German, Polish, Russian) and make listening to the horror tolerable. I was born in 1943. The atrocities are well documented in hindsight and I am familiar with the history of them. This man was there to witness and document the beginning and evolution of the horror in a futile attempt to stop it. It is a cautionary witness that the world needs to be aware of.

Southern Through and Through
Revisado: 08-02-15
Any additional comments?
My southern roots go back at least seven generations. I have family scattered over most of the southern states. They are as different as can be depending on what area of the south they are in. I found the author's descriptions to be pretty accurate on the varying parts of the south that she was in. Although I usually prefer to read books rather than listen to them, I found Lee Ann Howlett's narration very easy to listen to. Her style doesn't detract from the story. Her voice is easy on the ear.
