Historia
Tamzin Pook is a fighter in the Amusement Arcade. And what she does best is killing Revenants. All she knows is survival, having arrived in the Arcade as a small child. She pushes away her memories, her hopes, and her fears, and she emerges into the arena to battle the Revenants—dead brains nestled in armored engine bodies. She doesn't dare to hope or wish for anything more than to survive another day.

Great Addition to Mortal Engines Series
Revisado: 01-21-25
This book was a very fun listen. I've had mixed thoughts on the actual plots of Reeve's books, often thinking they went in odd directions. This book was well thought out to the end.

Historia
It is eleven thousand years from now . . . A lot has happened, and yet a lot is still very familiar. Ariel is a boy in a small town under a wizard’s rule. Like many adventurers before him, Ariel is called to explore a world full of unimaginable glories and challenges: unknown enemies, a mission to save the world, a girl. Here, as they say, be dragons. But none of this happens before Ariel comes across an artifact from an earlier civilization, a sentient, record-keeping artificial intelligence that carries with it the perspective of the whole of human history.

Weird and Boring
Revisado: 12-16-24
I made it the part where there were creatures described as having bears for hands... not bear hands, full bears for hands...
The main character has zero personality. There are no interesting characters. The world building pacing is hard to get through.
The performance was meh. I've heard worse but also much better.
Would not recommend....

Historia
In Lies My Teacher Told Me, James W. Loewen brings history alive in all its complexity and ambiguity. Beginning with pre-Columbian history and ranging over characters and events as diverse as Reconstruction, Helen Keller, the first Thanksgiving, the My Lai massacre, 9/11, and the Iraq War, Loewen offers an eye-opening critique of existing textbooks, and a wonderful retelling of American history as it should - and could - be taught to American students.

Strong Start, Disorganized and Repetitive Afterwards
Revisado: 06-28-23
I was excited to listen to this book. It started off great with a slew of great information on Columbus and pre-Columbus omitted or skewed by history books.
However, from the Civil War on, there was less actual information and increasing and repetitive bashing of history books.
Just as he complained about history books, as his book progressed, less time was spent on the material at the period of time at hand. Almost no corrective or interesting information is given about WWI, WWII and on. If he had put half the time in on Columbus (which is a huge chunk) on the other periods, it'd have been much better.

Historia
Though much of his early life remains a mystery, Blackbeard most likely began his life as Edward Teach in the sailing port of Bristol, England. He began his career as a hired British sailor during Queen Anne's War. He eventually settled in the Bahamas under Captain Benjamin Hornigold who taught the young sailor to go "a-pirating." Soon enough, Blackbeard was commanding his own fleet and stealing ships around the Caribbean and up and down the Eastern seaboard. The legend of Blackbeard has influenced pirate legend and lore for more than 300 years.

I completely enjoyed this. It even includes information surrounding Blackbeard. I also like the timeline summary.
