Historia
On July 23, 2007, Dr. William Petit suffered an unimaginable horror: Armed strangers broke into his suburban Connecticut home in the middle of the night, bludgeoned him nearly to death, tortured and killed his wife and two daughters, and set their house on fire. He miraculously survived, and yet living through those horrific hours was only the beginning of his ordeal. Broken and defeated, Bill was forced to confront a question of ultimate consequence: How does a person find the strength to start over and live again after confronting the darkest of nightmares?

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 12-22-24
I feel deep sympathy for the father, and I am happy he fell in love again. But the book nearly sanctifies him and his family. You learn details about his precocious childhood and all of the accomplishments in their lives. In one interview, it was reported that the Petits were in the process of a divorce, but this personal detail was not included in the narrative.
If you are looking for analysis of the horrific event that gave rise to the writing of this book or a study of the perpetrators, this is not the book. It is a tribute to the Petits and Mr. Petit’s journey in dealing with this tragedy.
Full disclosure: I only made it about 60% of the way through.

Confusing
Revisado: 09-25-24
It seems to jump around in the timeline with different storylines to add intrigue, and it just ends up being confusing. The story is interesting enough without having to skip around.

Historia
Inside a beautiful house in Philadelphia's ritzy Main Line section lay the body of a young mother - dead of an apparent drowning in her bathtub. With no sign of a break-in, no history of marital problems, and the naïve belief that these things sometimes just happen, Stefanie Rabinowitz's family prepared to bury the 29-year-old wife and mother. But at the 11th hour, because Stefanie was so young, and because there were no witnesses to her death, an autopsy was ordered. And what it revealed was unthinkable: Stefanie had been murdered.

Not suspenseful but interesting investigation
Revisado: 08-14-24
This not suspenseful true crime, but the details of the investigation were interesting, if that is what intrigues you. I thought the narrator was excellent, and I plan to look into other audio books he narrates.

Historia
On February 24, 1986, 29-year-old newlywed Sherri Rasmussen was murdered in the home she shared with her husband, John. The crime scene suggested a ferocious struggle, and police initially assumed it was a burglary gone awry. Before her death, Sherri had confided to her parents that an ex-girlfriend of John’s, a Los Angeles police officer, had threatened her. The Rasmussens urged the LAPD to investigate the ex-girlfriend, but the original detectives pursued only burglary suspects, and the case went cold.

Incredible Research Carried Out by Author
Revisado: 08-06-24
I listened to the audio book. This is an incredibly researched book and very detailed. The Epilogue itself is over 2.5 hours long, and it is absolutely gripping! I will be listening to the Epilogue again. You may have come to this book because you were fascinated by the interview of Lazarus that you watched on YT. Well, this book will not disappoint. It will take you deep into the lives of the key players in this miscarriage of justice. And as horrific as the murder is, the arguable cover-up, the LAPD negligence, and the treatment of Sherri’s family is maddening. And John is a pathetic character.
For those who are hesitant about the narration, I took another reviewer’s advice and played it at 1.2 speed. It was perfect for me. But I much prefer somewhat monotone narrators over dramatic readers. (I find it annoying at times where narrators attempt different voices and strange cadences.) The reading was straight forward, which allows you to focus on content.
So…I definitely recommend this book. It will be worth your investment of time. RIP Sherri. And my condolences to the Rasmussens.

Historia
For weeks, the body count of sexually violated, brutally murdered young women escalated. With increasing alarm, Los Angeles newspapers headlined the deeds of a serial killer they named the Hillside Strangler. The city was held hostage by fear. Darcy O'Brien weds the narrative skill of an award-winning novelist with the detailed observations of an experienced investigator to unravel this chilling true-crime story.

Gratuitous Descriptions of Sexual Violence
Revisado: 03-16-24
These murders are horrific, but the author has taken the liberty to imagine the real time rapes and torture and the conversations between the two murderers, and to include these detailed torture porn wonderings in his narrative. And I am only in Chapter 3. I haven’t decided whether to continue to the end.

Narrator Talks too Much
Revisado: 07-19-23
The narrator states his purpose is to let Bundy talk without interruption and then it is non-stop interruption. I hope future episodes are better. Also, the sound quality is poor, even with earbuds. I would like to find these tapes uninterrupted and with better quality without having to subscribe to something.

Revisado: 05-23-22
Not really interviews of people who dated serial killers. And the discussion between the host and guests is very immature. Toxic relationships are serious and the tone of this podcast seems incongruent. Jim Clemente added gravitas to at least one episode. I did not listen to all episodes.

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Self Deprecating Humor as a Vehicle for Bragging
Revisado: 03-06-22
Did not finish the last chapters. I was disappointed that Mindy in person appears to be whiny, superficial, self-absorbed, lacking in self awareness and very impressed by her perception of her ethics, intelligence and hobnobbing. I didn’t find the portrayal humorous.
