Leaps around too much
Revisado: 01-25-25
Detective is almost irrelevant to story. Characters solve the mystery. Ending not even interesting. Narrator did a great job though.

Predictable story line, boring dialogue, horrible narrator. I adore the Amelia Peabody books, this is mot even close. Actually painful to listen.

Narrator was excellent, story held my interest. Characters were fairly well developed, but too much romance for my taste.

Eleanor is thrilled about exploring her ancestral roots at her late uncle’s estate and spending the festive season in a castle. Packing Gladstone the bulldog’s coziest Christmas jumper, they set off to the Emerald Isle with her butler Clifford in tow. Really slow
Revisado: 01-06-23
Normally I adore these books, but this one was really slow to develop. Felt like the author had a minimum words requirement in her contract. Once it got going, it was a good story and filled in some background for us. Just not the author’s best work.

Young Adult - how young?
Revisado: 12-31-22
I would limit this book to someone who is 17 or older. Even at 71, I was shocked by the event that triggered the antagonist’s actions. It still haunts me, but maybe I have too vivid an imagination. Other than that, well done.

Historia
Finally, Flora Hyde-Clare has wrest the narrative from Beatrice by finding her own compelling murder mystery to solve. Well, it’s not entirely her own because the victim is her cousin’s former beau Mr. Theodore Davies, whose father cruelly separated the young lovers (though not so cruelly, for it left the door open for Bea to woo the duke of Kesgrave).

Very disappointed
Revisado: 03-30-21
I adore Beatrice, Fiona is a spoiled TOO CHATTY substitute. This would have worked as a short story but was too drawn out with ridiculous repeats of the story of Bea’s lost love and how Fiona feels at any moment.
Also I didn’t like the narrator’s voicing of Fiona, too high pitched. I actually slowed it down to be able to listen comfortably.
Hoping that Bea returns.

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Poetic and thoughtful!
Revisado: 01-22-20
I really enjoyed the insights and language of this book and the quality of the production. The fussy part of me expected a more Polish accent for Marie Curie but otherwise it is well worth the listen.

Too much Queenie in Queen of Hearts
Revisado: 01-08-15
What made the experience of listening to Queen of Hearts the most enjoyable?
I enjoy the frivolity and dialogue of this series. They are generally witty and entertaining. I also enjoy the narration by Katherine Kellgren with the NOTABLE exception of Queenie! I know she is supposed to be colorful, bold and of the "lower class." But in this book, she is just too whiny, loud, crass and....stupid. I didn't see where any of her actions served to either move the story along or add any real humor. Ms. Kellgren's vocalization of Queenie was frankly painful to listen to and Queenie had way too many lines in this book.Another reviewer noted how Georgie's continued soft heart when it comes to Queenie has become a major weakness. I totally agree. None of us - the characters in the story, nor her reader's understand why Georgie keeps her around.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katherine Kellgren?
I would not replace Ms. Kellgren, I just hope that the author chooses to get rid of Queenie, soon.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I like this series, but this is not the book that I would choose to film.
Any additional comments?
It is a fun read, just not my favorite.
