Absolutely amazing

I found this book randomly, looking for new paranormal romance etc. I have high standards with these kinds of stories, and this one I couldn’t stop listening to!! The narrator is great, there’s a cool magic system, just enough spicy scenes, and it ends on a cliffhanger!! Definitely try it.

Very spicy!! I was surprised because I thought this was YA haha! Narration is great, story is great! There’s a lot more death than I thought there would be. The training to be riders is cruel and unforgiving and they die left and right.

Violet is super likeable which is really important to me. She shows growth through the book and you definitely root for her.

The only thing I didn’t like was the randomn switch to the male narrator in the last chapter. The whole book I was just used to the female narrator doing their voices so it felt super jarring. But it didn’t last that long.

Definitely get this!

Really, really good

Harry takes us from when he was a little kid through present day - you see how messed up his family is - no hugging, no touching, no showing emotion. It’s crazy how messed up his life was. No one spoke to him about his moms death or helped him process it. He’s really open and honest throughout - about hating himself and adhd, depression, etc. anything to make him stop feeling the pain. I had no idea the back side of how gross and horrible the British newspapers are, and how his family leaked stories to them to make themselves look better.

I also just went through a family breakup with toxic, narcissistic, stubborn family members and I really felt his frustration and disbelief and sadness because I went through it first hand too. Some people all you can do is cut them out of your life, because they will never be persuaded or changed.

Harry reads this so effortlessly that it seems like he’s just talking to you. It’s really quick and easy to listen to. I did have to look up what a byro was haha.

Great Narration and story!!

So excited to discover more books in this world!! I read the Moonfire Bride/Sunfire King duology and then the newer one with the Trollde King, and this series is the same world! It took me awhile to connect all the dots since I listen to the audiobooks and don’t see names written out, so it was easier to forget if it was all happening in the same kingdoms etc. I think this is centuries later than the Moonfire Bride? Because the Mafati (sp?) are more legend now.
This voice actress is SO GOOD and that’s why I started looking for other books she’s read. You are sucked into the story and into the first person narration so vividly. Going to read the sequel now!

An Amazing Trilogy

WOW. What an AMAZING conclusion to this trilogy!! It really comes full circle and wraps up things from the first book in a way that I didn’t see coming at all! The narrator is INCREDIBLE and brings the story to life so vividly. This whole story is so unique and special and I’m so happy with the ending!!

Amazing narrator

The voice acting of the narrator Anisha Dadia is incredible. I couldn’t stop listening and cleaned my whole kitchen twice over 2 days to binge listen to it!! She draws you in so completely you forget it’s actually a book.

I finished Naomi Noviks other book, Spinning Silver, on here and totally loved it so decided to spend credits on this one. However I was extremely surprised because the tone of the books is incredibly different - Spinning Silver was a very long historical Russian folktaleish slice of life tale with some surprising romantic themes that jumped between many characters POVs. This Scholomance series is VERY dark YA, fast paced and action packed, and is first person narration. It’s like hunger games but in a sentient magic fortress with monsters that eat the kids. It’s so good!!!

A true Enemies to Lovers Romance

WOW. I loved the author’s other book Uprooted and it’s very romantic love story, so I really wanted to read this book for awhile. But I couldn’t tell from reviews if it was a romance or not, so I put it off. BUT IT IS!!!! It’s a long, long, glorious slow burn that is a TRUE “Enemies to Lovers” story. It’s extremely romantic but it’s a long wait for it. Which makes it all the sweeter!! I had no idea how it would end even up until the last 5 minutes. In the last minute I wanted to just burst into tears. Omg the ending!!!

There was a lot of daily life and toil, and struggle of Russian peasants, and politics, with folklore magic interspersed and the a last act of sweeping fantasy. It’s been sooo long since I yelled out loud at a book. Even though it’s an audio book I wanted to throw it across the room, or flip forward to see how it went because I couldn’t take the tension. I was in the kitchen listening while I cooked, yelling because I couldn’t help myself, “Goddamnit Miriam!! He better not die!! Ahhh!!”

It was incredible as an audiobook. The narrator does amazing Russian accents, and subtle voice changes for girls, children, men, demons etc that don’t seem forced. I hate when a female narrator is trying to sound deep like a man and it doesn’t quite click. This narrator was so amazing. There was SUCH passion and incredible energy it was like watching a movie with people acting, it was such an intense performance - not like someone was reading off a page AT ALL.

The story has several different PoVs it switches between as the story grows. They don’t switch POV until the character meets the next POV character naturally in the story, which is really cool. It feels very organic and you get to see the same scenes from different angles. Main characters are the 3 women though.

I would definitely recommend this as an audiobook over reading it, and I’m a huge reader. The voice acting really benefits this kind of story.
