Historia
In 1912, at the height of World War I, brilliant Shakespeare expert Elizebeth Smith went to work for an eccentric tycoon on his estate outside Chicago. The tycoon had close ties to the US government, and he soon asked Elizebeth to apply her language skills to an exciting new venture: code breaking. There she met the man who would become her husband, groundbreaking cryptologist William Friedman. Though she and Friedman are in many ways the Adam and Eve of the NSA, Elizebeth's story, incredibly, has never been told.

Wow. Truly inspiring!
Revisado: 03-23-25
Don’t be afraid to do the hard things. We rely too much on technology these days and are losing the ability to do the hard work. What inspiration to hard work especially for a woman during those times. Truly inspiring. Excellently presented and narrated.

Hidden gem!
Revisado: 02-19-25
What a great historical fiction story! I happened on this book after a deep dive on Vincent Van Gogh. I feel like it’s a hidden gem for anyone that likes the Van Gogh story/history, Theo and the indomitable spirit of Johanna van Gogh-Bonger and the art world in general.
I rather enjoyed the dual stories and characters. Great narration. It’s definitely inspires me to keep moving forward on my own projects.

Working with the full cooperation of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith have accessed a wealth of previously untapped materials. While drawing liberally from the artist's famously eloquent letters, they have also delved into hundreds of unpublished family correspondences, illuminating with poignancy the wanderings of Van Gogh's troubled, restless soul. Naifeh and Smith bring a crucial understanding to the larger-than-life mythology of this great artist.

What a fantastic deep dive!
Revisado: 02-16-25
I wasn’t sure If I was going to make it through this book at first but I quickly got swallowed up in all the details, narration and letters. Wow. So well done I was blown away. I will probably listen again as to catch more details. I am forever changed on how I will think and view his life, his art, Theo and others. I found myself looking up details and people and learning more about the other artists as well. I find myself wanting to talk about this with others.
Very well done!

Historia
The holidays are upon us, and this year Audible is very happy to present to our members one of Charles Dickens’ most popular Christmas stories, The Cricket on the Hearth. This holiday classic (original subtitle: “A Fairy Tale of Home”) tells the innocent, picturesque, and charming story of a poor family and their would-be guardian angel; in short, a delightful vision of Victorian Christmas. As always, a great story calls for a great voice, so we’ve brought in legendary actor and record-breaking Audie and Grammy award-winning narrator Jim Dale ( The Night Circus). Happy holidays and happy listening!

Thought provoking
Revisado: 10-13-23
I really enjoyed the individual stories and how they tied together. They have actually given me some thoughts on things in my own work life. Only one story could have had a slightly better narrator which threw off the consistency with the “librarian” but I truly enjoyed the book very much and wouldn’t let that deter you from listening. A unique concept and one that I hope to see more stories from in the future. Always good things to be found in the library.

I enjoyed this book very much. The insight into her life, family, people, politics and the times. I thought the narrator did an excellent job in making the book feel that much more personal.

Brilliant follow up story
Revisado: 02-17-23
I was nervous how this would follow the other two books but it exceeded expectations. Loved it. What a great follow up to the other two books. The story and the characters are well thought out and developed. I loved Gothlie and Gethli! I look forward to more “adventures” in the future. I liked that this book had more of a lighter/brighter feel than the last one.

When George d’Clare receives the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, he and his wife. Madison. organize a support group. This noble endeavor eventually leads them to meeting a strange man with an incredible story - a captivating tale about a device that could transport a person into the future and return them safely to the present. His far-fetched account also comes with an equally fantastic offer: to help him in a daring plan to use the device to bring back the cure for the disease. Thinking the man suffers from dementia, George dismisses him as delusional.

Interesting spin on a time travel story
Revisado: 09-08-22
I like it when you find a hidden gem of a book like this. This was a great listen and I thought the pairing of the narrator to story was perfect. A great rainy day listen. I found the storyline and characters engaging and the format of “then” and “now” easy enough to follow. Really enjoyable.

A Perfect Follow-up
Revisado: 08-26-22
This second book is a special reminder to what a difference a few words can do to change a person’s life and bring happiness. More heartwarming stories to enjoy coffee by. You will want to listen without distractions or you can miss small details with the characters and stories. This second book is equally as good as the first and the series has become a favorite of mine I can listen to multiple times. Kevin Shen does a great job as did the first narrator. Looking forward to more stories.
