Rosenblat is the GOAT
Revisado: 10-27-21
This is not the greatest of the Peabody/Emerson books but Barbara Rosenblat brings it all alive. She ‘gets it’ and she plays it perfectly.

Historia
The name of Madame Tussaud is famous throughout the world, yet few people know the fascinating story of her life in Paris during the French revolution, where she met Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, and Napoleon, and became a close friend of the Royal family and an acquaintance of the radical Robespierre. In her Memoirs of 1838, Madame Tussaud recounts how she was forced to take wax impressions of the newly severed heads of her Royal Friends to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette....

Great Story and Reader, Annoying Effects
Revisado: 01-23-12
Would you try another book from Madame Tussaud and/or Jane Lapotaire?
The memoir was fascinating and Jane Lapotaire is a great reader. Her pronunciation of the French names was very impressive.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Madame Tussaud led a remarkable life: at Versailles for ten years prior to the revolution and then to survive the terrors, despite being imprisoned for a time, was extraordinary. She was intimately involved with almost all the players of this time from King Louis XVI to Robespierre. Her matter of fact descriptions of holding the heads of dead victims of the terror on her lap as she made masks of their faces rather takes your breath away.
Any additional comments?
The sound effects used in the background of this reading were very annoying and in some instances made no sense. The sound of a ticking clock was repeatedly used for no reason that was apparent to me. The story was interesting enough that it didn't really need the dramatic sounds.

Historia
One of the greatest of all English novels, a finely etched satire about the scatterbrained Mrs. Bennett, whose aim in life is to see her five daughters married. Meet Jane Austen's rich and varied characters: the proud Mr. Darcy; the pompous parson Mr. Collins, who seeks the most advantageous match for himself; good-humored Mr. Bingley; and, of course, the two eldest Bennett daughters, Jane and Elizabeth.

Jane Lapotaire Has a Dream Voice
Revisado: 01-10-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Pride and Prejudice to be better than the print version?
The audio version is better than the written version because I can read it while I drive. And in my mind I can never sound as wonderfully English as Jane Lapotaire.
What did you like best about this story?
What can you say about Miss Austen. Classic.
What about Jane Lapotaire’s performance did you like?
Jane Lapotaire has such a delicious voice that I forgot to concentrate on the story and just listened to her speak.
Any additional comments?
My only complaint was that it was abridged. What did I miss? Pay Jane Lapotaire more and have her read the whole thing.
