Historia
Now a spry 94 years old, Frank Sisson looks back at his life and his service in the Third Army. Born in rural Oklahoma, Frank grew up fatherless during the Great Depression. In 1944, at age 18, he enlisted and was deployed to France where he marched with Patton, taking part in many of the key Allied movements of the war. Frank fought in the Battle of the Bulge, nearly died crossing the Rhine with Patton, and was among the first American soldiers who liberated the notorious Dachau concentration camp.

Historia
On June 29, 1919, one day after the Treaty of Versailles brought about the end of World War I, nearly seventy cyclists embarked on the thirteenth Tour de France. From Paris, the war-weary men rode down the western coast on a race that would trace the country’s border, through seaside towns and mountains to the ghostly western front. Traversing a cratered postwar landscape, the cyclists faced near-impossible odds and the psychological scars of war. Most of the athletes had arrived straight from the front, where so many fellow countrymen had suffered or died.

I am a cyclist so that surely colors this review. The information and history of this iconic race was fascinating. The way the author integrated the events of WWI and the impact of the war on the land and people was effective and added to the enjoyment. Well researched, written, and performed.

Historia
When African jihadis attack a Nigerian regiment using American weapons, Cabrillo and the Oregon crew are on the case, investigating from Afghanistan to Kuala Lumpur to track a mysterious arms dealer—a genius, or perhaps a devil—known only as the Vendor. Cabrillo goes undercover to find the Vendor’s base, but his adversary isn’t just an arms smuggler. He’s an arms maker, and Cabrillo just walked into a lethal military game alongside the most dangerous mercenaries in the world, designed to test the Vendor’s cutting-edge AI arsenal.

Mike Maden does credit to the Corporation
Revisado: 09-07-24
It’s Clive Cussler’s baby but Mike Maden has proven himself a worthy and capable stepfather. The story is thoroughly engaging and believable, within the context of the Oregon Files universe. A completely enjoyable listen.
Of course Scott Brick’s talents in bringing the story to life cannot be discounted. One gets the feeling he could make a nursery rhyme sound exciting and suspenseful.
I hope Mike Maden will continue to provide Oregon File adventures for us to enjoy. And that Scott Brick will continue to read them.
All of the characters and story lines created by Clive Cussler are enjoyable but the Oregon Files and Fargo adventures are my personal favorites. The new Oregon story has been genuinely enjoyed and appreciated.
Thank you Messrs. Maden and Brick.

Historia
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a pastor and author. In this New York Times bestselling biography, Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life—the theologian and the spy—and draws them together to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

Amazing and inspiring story
Revisado: 10-02-23
Wish I had read this book 10 years ago when my wife did and commended it to me. The thoughts and feelings the story evokes are too extensive and mixed to express here. The author, through the life of Bonhoeffer, provides a window into post WW 1 and mid 20th century Germany and the German people as well as the Bonhoeffer family and their contemporaries that is both inspiring and tragically heartbreaking.
The story also lays bare the evil incarnate at the heart of the German Nazi movement, it’s leaders, and avid adherents. And how so many otherwise good German people were seduced and misled by those truly evil men. The story further gives one a new appreciation for the many good men and women who resisted and fought against the Nazi horrors as best they knew how in the face of grave personal danger and indifference on the part of political leaders outside Germany that they reached out to for help.
This book is a must read for anyone interested in history and the lessons it teaches.

Historia
In The Collapse of Parenting, Leonard Sax, an acclaimed expert on parenting and childhood development, identifies a key problem plaguing American children, especially relative to other countries: the dramatic decline in young people's achievement and psychological health. The root of this problem, Sax contends, lies in the transfer of authority from parents to their children, a shift that has been occurring over the last 50 years and is now impossible to ignore.

Too old, too busy, but finally not too old.
Revisado: 10-30-22
I think I was too old already to be interested in these books by the time they were available in the United States, probably in the 1950s. And too busy in my professional career in the late 1960s and 1970s when my wife read them with our children. But I’m glad I discovered them on Audible as an 80 year old. They are delightful and well written and have a message much needed in our troubled “modern” times.

Revisado: 11-20-18
The narration could not have been better. The story was delightful nonstop action that was funny, upbeat and delightful. The overall message was quite positive.
I presume this was written as a children’s story but my world weary soul completely escaped into it.
