I am embarrassed to admit how far into this book I was before I had an inkling of what was going on but there were two things that kept me listening. The first was the scope and density of the writing. It is just amazing on what Stephenson drew on and the depth of his knowledge of each subject. The second was the utterly amazing performance of William Dufris who managed to maintain his enthusiasm and the delightful complexity of the characters in the book. I am not sure I would have gotten through Cryptonomicon without him.
