Wonderful again’
Revisado: 02-24-25
Another great installment of this series. I hope there will be more! Publishers seem to only push fantasy with blood and explosions which can be fun but clever and cozy books like this are such a perfect palette cleanser. This one is lovely and very heartfelt. Great plot and page turningly interesting :-) Swoony too! Loved it. Hope the author is hard at work in another right now!

The Ramirez women of Staten Island orbit around absence. When thirteen‑year‑old middle child Ruthy disappeared after track practice without a trace, it left the family scarred and scrambling. One night, twelve years later, oldest sister Jessica spots a woman on her TV screen in Catfight, a raunchy reality show. She rushes to tell her younger sister, Nina: This woman's hair is dyed red, and she calls herself Ruby, but the beauty mark under her left eye is instantly recognizable. Could it be Ruthy, after all this time?

The author makes you feel like a family member. She pulled me in immediately and right when I thought it would lag it didn’t, it made you need to know what happened next. Great writing, such a gut punch ending. Loved it.

A bit slow but it gets going!
Revisado: 10-24-24
It starts out very slow, but things get going about the halfway mark. Like other reviewers said her pronunciation of eeeeeeeether is intensely annoying, especially hearing it so many times! The male voice is good but slightly comical when he does female voices. Cringe. The joining chapter wasn’t as spicy as some reviewers have said. It’s been foreshadowed for two books so was expecting more, still fun though. pretty good installment of the series!

Long but great!
Revisado: 09-25-24
There was a lot to wrap up and this did not disappoint. Great story and twists and spice as always. Maas is the queen, just submit!!! Narrator is excellent (although the drawn out S’s for the viper queen will always annoy me but it’s a minuscule quibble) otherwise completely great and so, so, so much better than the over produced, bad community theater audio dramas they do. Those are horrible. This is a talented narrator doing her thing and telling a story and it’s fantastic.

Good but plot holes or clues?
Revisado: 07-23-24
No doubt SJM knows how to write a good story! This one does start slowly like some of the reviews say but I liked the world building so I didn’t mind that. Like usual, once things get going they really get going. I just listened to ACOTAR so was worried about jumping worlds but it was great & interesting especially if you consider similarities to our own world. I’m not sure why they directed the VO artist to make every single character sound like a spoiled sorority girl but that was the one drawback for me. Like male or female. It was grating, especially the viper queen where they had her draw out all of the S’s like a snake from a cartoon. I had to fast forward those scenes. It was really annoying to have that in your ears…do the people who direct the voices listen to the books? The book itself is good and clearly sets the stage for the next one. Could’ve used more spice though! I didn’t notice much cursing like one review mentioned (also don’t care at all about that). Give it a go if you want a good, easy breezy summer listen.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Slow but good
Revisado: 07-11-24
The story doesn’t really get moving until the final third of the book but once it finally does things get interesting. The protagonist is so completely clueless as to what’s going on it’s pretty frustrating. Good for an older teen but adults will get bored I think. Also the author seems confused about ages…characters in their 20s are said to be in their second decade. Birth to 10 is our first decade, teens our second, 20s our third. A quibble, I know but no editor noticed? It was a solid summer listen though. Very entertaining once it got going!

Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folklore who just wrote the world’s first comprehensive encyclopedia of faeries. She’s learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Ones on her adventures . . . and also from her fellow scholar and former rival Wendell Bambleby. Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. He’s an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother and in search of a door back to his realm.

It’s official, I’m hooked!
Revisado: 05-12-24
Many twists and turns and completely satisfying. Spicy in parts and she kept that action coming. So good! The narrator is the same and she’s great. Although pronouncing Rhys’s name differently from the first book was odd at first it became fine. Good narration. This is MUCH better than the overdone theatrical version. This is solid storytelling (without the unnecessary & annoying background stuff) told by a good narrator. Totally recommend!!!
