If you could sum up Cry of the Needle in three words, what would they be?

A Scary Scenario

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Definitely! Couldn't wait to find out how Kieran's plan played out.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Standoff.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cry. The thought of so many people living in complete misery so the pharmaceutical industry could make a lot of money is heartbreaking. Although the book is fiction, it makes you wonder how much of this actually goes on.

Any additional comments?

Nigel Patterson was, as always, superb in his storytelling! One of my personal favorites!

What made the experience of listening to Salt of the Earth the most enjoyable?

This was a great book. The story was told so well that I actually felt as though I was there.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Definitely Elaine Gere. This woman went through every mother's nightmare, but held herself together for her family. She never thought of herself, only the well-being of of her loved ones. A very strong woman.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

As always, his performance was perfect. He has a talent for subtle changes in tone that make it so easy to distinguish between the characters. I'm always sucked in right away to a book that he's reading.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

That the human spirit can survive terrible things.

What made the experience of listening to Sleep Tight the most enjoyable?

The book is fast-paced and the narrator did an excellent job.

What did you like best about this story?

Throughout the book, I kept thinking I figured out who the murderer was, but it was an unexpected twist.

What about Hollis McCarthy’s performance did you like?

Great story-teller! She didn't sound like she was just reading a book. She was telling a story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Would you try another book from Michael Robertson Jr and/or J. Scott Bennett?

Not sure. I was anxious to get started with it because of the synopsis, but became disappointed very quickly. I do, however, enjoy listening to books narrated by Mr. Bennett.

Has Cedar Ridge turned you off from other books in this genre?

No.

Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have. His performance with this book was just as good as the others.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise was a great idea. It just wasn't carried out very well.

Any additional comments?

I figured out almost from the beginning what was going on. The characters, the "doctor" in particular, gave way too much information to John and Michelle when they arrived. This continued throughout the book.

What did you love best about The Almshouse?

I loved being an "insider" with the ghosts in Mansion Park! The thought that there may be spirits with actual "lives" going on is fascinating.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Almshouse?

Lyle's realization of how he died.

What about Vicky Ring’s performance did you like?

She was great! Very good at differentiating the characters from one another.

Any additional comments?

I really loved this book. It's a different kind of ghost story and I really can't wait to get the next book!

What did you love best about Secret Lessons?

That the young victims had such a fantastic support system in Pam Klein, Don Weber and many other members of the judicial system.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite characters were all the brave young ladies who stood up to this man.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

He sucked me in right away. Just as if he was "telling" a story instead of reading it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without giving anything away, the ending was bittersweet. A predictable fate for a "man" such as Robert Van Hook.

Any additional comments?

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

This book was difficult to listen to for obvious reasons. However, this story had to be told. Even today, people don't realize the shame and skepticism that victims face in these situations, often times from their own family members. This man enjoyed the unwavering support of his community, no matter what evidence was presented. Although he was proven guilty, his victims continued to endure the disgrace placed upon them by community members. It truly is heartbreaking.
