It’s a good as I had been told. Solzhenitsyn’s insights into the human spirit are profound and balance the otherwise unremittingly bleak recounting of the stories from Gulag. My only criticism is that the narrator is a bit “too British” with his upper class accent which took me out of my sense of the Russianness of the novel.

If you were every wondering about Drover's backstory, here it is. You won't want to miss Pete the barn cat teaching Drover how to fly or Drover telling us about how he wanted to go to "Handsome Prince School". All of this and how he had to go out and find a job and you have a great listen. All the characters are excellent and we get great insight into Drover's personality.

This is one of my kid's very favorite one and he will listen to it to go to sleep, sometimes even though he has heard it over and over.

This might be the funniest of them all. Hank gets in real big trouble and decides to go visit his sister Maggie and her puppies. Well, Maggie is a city dog with manners and she is not at all pleased to see Hank. Maggie takes the funniest steps to make Hank leave. Hank takes it on himself to give the puppies a few lessons on being a dog. It doesn't take long before the dog catcher and the sheriff's department is out to get Hank who they think has rabies. You will never look at Ivory soap the same way. They will forever be Ivory dog bars.

This book has excellent characters, excellent accents, an amazingly funny storyline, and action packed ending. If you were ever wondering about Hank's family, this is a great one.

My kids know the cat song by heart!

It's Christmas on the ranch. Slim and Hank and Little Alfred go to town to get some last minute Christmas shopping done and to see the parade. On the way, a wounded Wallace gets added to the mix.

With all the charm of Wallace and Junior, you can pretty much guess that it will be funny. Our favorite part is listening to poor Slim try to buy Christmas presents for everyone. Poor Slim, you and Hank are a real team.

A great listen, especially toward Christmas.

Little Alfred plays a big roll in this one as he wants to go fishing like Tom Sawyer. Everyone is too busy, but Hank. But, we all know Hank, no self control! Will he survive swallowing the fishhook? Will he survive Sally Mae and Slim's remedies?

This action packed Hank has more great songs, more of Hank being Hank and Slim being Slim. I love how Hank the Cowdog books describe real ranch situations, real ranch problems, and real ranch solutions. If your kid is a city kid, Hank books are a great education.

This one is one of our favorites! Nice and long, with lots of action, lots of situations.

Little Alfred has the measles but Sally Mae and Loper need to take a trip to Abilene to see her parents. What to do? well, leave Little Alfred in the care of Slim and Hank, that's what. But, we all know what's in store when Loper asks Slim, "You've had the measles, haven't you?" and Slim mumbles "Nope, and I ain't planning to." oops, foreshadowing! Add a blizzard and Hank and Drovers incompetence and BY GOLLY you have a great story! All the different accents are great and we get a surprise visit from someone who can swoop in and save the day.

If you haven't discovered Hank the Cowdog on audio then you are missing out. It doesn't matter your age, these are entertaining. If you want a quiet car, get your kids hooked on listening to Hank the Cowdog. This one is a special favorite of the kids, perhaps because of the song, perhaps because Hank and Little Alfred get into a lot of trouble.

One of our favorites as a family! There is a saddle thief out there hitting ranches and Hank is warned by Slim to be on the look-out. If only Hank wasn't so gullible!! At the same time, a stray dog becomes a guest on the ranch. However, this stray dog isn't playing with a full deck and thinks he's been marooned on the island of Madagascar and soon so does Drover. Hilarity ensues. Over 15 years, with our various kids we have listened to this one and everyone is always on the edge of their seats toward the end. And they always ask to listen to the song over and over, it is very cleverly written. We wore out the CD and finally had to buy the audible version.

Hank books are a good read but they are a treat to listen to. Over the years, for family vacations, on the to do list, there is always the instruction to "Get a new Hank cd for the road". Even my husband will ask me to pick one out and get it downloaded on his phone so he can listen on his business car trips. That is saying a lot about the quality writing of the Hank stories.

What did you love best about The Secret of Red Gate Farm?

This is one of the most enjoyable Nancy Drews we've heard. We listened to it as a family over and over.

What does Laura Linney bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Laura Linney's voice establishes Nancy Drew as a smart and sophisticated young lady. Laura's voice is very pleasant.

If you could sum up A Christmas Carol: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry in three words, what would they be?

We listened to this in our car in December. If you can't seem to get through reading A Christmas Carol, then listening to Tim Curry read it to you is the second best method. The story is such an iconic English classic that I think everyone should read. However, it can be tedious and exhausting to get through for those who prefere modern lit. But, this audio reading makes this accessible to everyone, including elementary aged children.Dicken's imagery and metaphors are so wonderful and Tim Curry's performance is amazing.

Any additional comments?

A must!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

We were so accustomed to Laura Linney's narration that this new girl threw us off. Laura Linney made Nancy Drew sound sophisticated and smart. The new reader sounds like Ruby from Max and Ruby. We like Ruby's voice but not for Nancy Drew. It would have been allright had we started the series with this one.

The actual story is probably one of the best Nancy Drews

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Not our favorite narrator for this piece.
