Disappointed
Revisado: 04-30-25
After reading all the reviews I was hyped. But this book was so disappointing. It was all over the place. I did not like the main character at all. She was selfish and inconsiderate of others. Following her dream caused harm to others. A lot of her foolishness was unbelievable.
The narrator did her job very well. I’m trying to finish it but it’s a struggle.
However, to be the author’s first novel it was impressive.

3 blind mice
Revisado: 03-07-25
The first few chapters were great but the more I listened the more I became irritated with the storyline and the characters. I guess to make things spicy the author allowed the characters to make the same horrible decisions over and over again.
The characters had no depth. Only one character really worked in the to he book and he was the husband to one of the bffs. One friend had dreams of becoming an artist, but she was not making any money doing from her work . Evelyn was not a friend to anyone not even herself yet the other two kept accepting her into the fold.
Three women making foolish decisions. Read at your own risk.

So much rape and abuse
Revisado: 11-28-24
I skipped through the rape a violence abuse of the woman in this book. It was bad enough that she fell for her kidnapper after he and his friends beat her axx and after he allowed her to be violated by a woman. They express feelings for each other then he violently raped her. She heals then go back to him. All the raping. If I knew that I would have never read this book.

Historia
Oreo is raised by her maternal grandparents in Philadelphia. Her black mother tours with a theatrical troupe, and her Jewish deadbeat dad disappeared when she was an infant, leaving behind a mysterious note that triggers her quest to find him. What ensues is a playful, modernized parody of the classical odyssey of Theseus with a feminist twist, immersed in seventies pop culture, and mixing standard English, black vernacular, and Yiddish with wisecracking aplomb.

Decent storyline, horrible narrator
Revisado: 10-02-24
The story was ok. Too much time discussing unimportant things and not enough time on the courtship. After a few dates they were married. Nothing personal but the narrator was horrible. I actually sped it up . His ready was horrible , monotonous and boring. He did no justice for the book.

Disappointed
Revisado: 09-12-24
The story line appeared to be good. I love Savannah so I thought it would be enjoyable. First the narrator was horrible . The way she chopped up words and sentences was awful. I tried to push through anyway. But the book was all over the place. The dad goes from being at death’s door gets discharged and goes back to work. No down time.
The daughter talks like a 30 year old woman if not older.
If you are not familiar with poetry, you can easily get lost. Instead of expressing himself in simple sentences the dad will break out with a poem written in old English. There was no flow.
I got my credit back. This is one time I would love to speak with the author and narrator to ask what were they thinking 🤔

Disconnect
Revisado: 08-16-24
I struggled with this book, The chemistry was not there for any of the relationships mother daughter relationships, the sister’s relationship, Jennifer and Leon relationship. Everything was on the surface. There was no courtship between the two. They had a bunch of dialogue about how he didn’t want a relationship. Maybe it’s me. But I didn’t get it,
