Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Great story telling!
Revisado: 09-08-22
I got this book yesterday and completed it the next day. The narrator was great! The story was Steven King at his best, telling the reader a well developed story. I highly recommend the book. It was a fairy tale, with that dark twist. Also the characters in the story I enjoyed & liked. I especially loved the dog Radar & how Charlie became his person.

A note is left on a car windshield, an old dog dies, and Kent Nerburn finds himself back on the Lakota reservation where he traveled more than a decade before with a tribal elder named Dan. The touching, funny, and haunting journey that ensues goes deep into reservation boarding-school mysteries, the dark confines of sweat lodges, and isolated Native homesteads far back in the Dakota hills in search of ghosts that have haunted Dan since childhood.

I learned allot from this book about honesty of the author. An easy listen, gave me new roads to travel in my search for learning about Native American thoughts.
There are things in this narrative that will touch you heart and bring you pain. A part of my search for truth denied me by my country.

Historia
In this 1996 Minnesota Book Award winner, Kent Nerburn draws the listener deep into the world of an Indian elder known only as Dan. It’s a world of Indian towns, white roadside cafes, and abandoned roads that swirl with the memories of the Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull. Listeners meet vivid characters like Jumbo, a 400-pound mechanic, and Annie, an 80-year-old Lakota woman living in a log cabin. Threading through the audiobook is the story of two men struggling to find a common voice.

Historia
For 400 years - from the first Spanish assaults against the Arawak people of Hispaniola in the 1490s to the US Army's massacre of Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee in the 1890s - the indigenous inhabitants of North and South America endured an unending firestorm of violence. During that time the native population of the Western Hemisphere declined by as many as 100 million people.

A must read for anyone seeking true history
Revisado: 06-18-21
This book is well researched, I learned so much truth behind the history of America & how many lies we believe.
It's an uncomfortable read, but the truth will set you free to make better decisions politically and hopefully change the way you think about the world and how we handle people of color. This is the must read for people of European descent and white. Also a must read for people of color. I'm am white, but now I know things that were hidden from me. I spent allot of time soul searching & cried many times. But I now have a intense desire to learn true history.
America needs to wake up and learn about this land and the Noble people who were her for thousands of years before explorers ever set foot on it's sacred soil.
Also not only is North American covered, but other lands where it's Native people's were destroyed.
Also the narrator is great. Highly recommend this book!!!

because halfway through the book the narrator starts, chanting a character's voice. It's for a few chapters, maybe I missed something, but it was annoying.

Survival Story
Revisado: 09-26-20
Really enjoyed this story & the narrator. Always knew whose voice I was listening too. Post apocalyptic survival story. Authors follows the lives of two people against incredible odds. I started listening and didn't stop until the end, I did sleep 6 hours. Author threw in several senecios that these two people survive. Good story.

Good Story
Revisado: 09-24-20
I would have given this story a 5, but took me longer to connect with story.
This story was written in 2015 I think, it's about a world wide pandemic.
I absolutely loved reading a story about real people trying to come together in horrific circumstances.
It was nice to read about good people coming together, there were some bad ones along the way, But not what you see on Hollywood shows.
A story about just real everyday people trying to survive and come together from all over to make a community
I love post-apocalyptic stories. However, It was good to finally read a story of hope and survival. most apocalyptic stories have tons of evil people doing horrible things, But this story made you feel good at the end and hopeful.
maybe it has something to do with living through Covid19. So many authors paint the world full of evil despicable people. I do love those types of stories, I love The walking Dead, But this story is not that type of story. It's just about people trying to survive and a lot of good coming out of it. A nice change of pace in such a negative society we're living in today.
