I listened to this through audible+ and the 2nd book isn't included yet so it's a one and some for me.

The story overall is nice and there is a lot of development opportunities for the well developed side characters that are developed through this book. The pop culture references from doctor who to M.A.S.H. are well done. My only regret is that he the main character is the first to develop malitof cocktails and only uses them once to devastatingly effective results that would have been of great use when sieging the goblin castle. I hope we get so see more boom traps from our ranger instead of it being a one off because of the potential power creep.

She was always a horny ideot with a one track mind in a quest to make Daromdle happy, with him and the quality cast of characters built up over the last book she ends up being an unstoppable force because every sect more powerful than her turns a blind eye and the cast of characters that survives more than 5 minutes is ok but very few. The interaction between ideot and world is sorely missing and very detrimental to the story.

The first book was an amusing short story that was somewhat selfe contained and set up the world. This was a bad filler episode in an anime where you skip through the episode to see the 2 to 6 nuggets of info and skim over the rest hoping they pull their head out of their but for the next episode.

it was an enjoyable book with each character having a clear personality that interacted with the other characters in a smooth and well built story.
These people are damaged goods and the big bad did war crimes and sexual assault throughout the book but the acts are implied or in a fade to black writing style so the point is made without drifting into graphic scenes.

This is one of the few audible plus books worth listening to, maybe even worth a credit if you like it enough.

Great narorator B tier free book

Revisado: 06-28-21

The narrator is a favorite of mine and certainly made this B tier story more interesting.
Some complain about the pronouns which is intentional because we are in a world where biotech and cybernetics can allow humans to play god with their bodies so there are distinctions between it looks like a female and is one. The author tries to establish this with the starting scene where an injured individual's junk enhancements are messing with the medic treating battle damage and how their team spook looks male or female depending on how you look at them. This is the first book in the series and you can eventually figure out that it's a cyberpunk style dystopia about half way through the book because the author doesn't properly set up the universe in the begining of the book

The plot itself is B tier with none of the major characters getting any injuries beyond a flesh wound a scifi bandage can't stabilize. Solving the mystery involved a linear story of kidnapping and or killing off suspects until one remained. The interaction between main characters and interesting bits of lore make it an ok book to listen to while you wait for your next audible credit to arrive.

It's an interesting book to what is a shallow series in what could be a detailed and interesting world. I burned through the book at 2x
It's an ok read as part of the free subscriber library but not worth buying since it is very much a one and done kind of listen.

The universe has a lot of potential with the intriguing blend of magic and science. However, the world is nothing more than a shallow backdrop that allows for interesting enemies for the main character to defeat or bed. It feels like an on the rails chain of battles and experiences that can be an interesting listen at 2x since there isn't much depth to dig your teeth into.

The author is telling the story from the perspective of the main character, so when he let's the darkness take the wheel all you get is the battle start, and the concusion/him waking up when his girls get a knife in the back. This means that the fight scenes are unsatisfying and feel overly short. The rate at which non-main characters died or disappeared was disappointing in the second 3rd of the book. Especially when our group of warriors and assasins fell asleep on watch and trusted strangers when enemy shapeshifters were around multiple times. The first and last 3rd of the story is good but the middle is a bunch of noob mistakes and randomness.

It's an interesting and satisfying book that has a satisfying story arc that leaves you content if this is as far as you listen but sets the groundwork for the next book. expect swearing and gratuity expected amongst those in the warrior profession as our hero goes from head of the town guard to a man who must wield a great evil to stop another greater evil. The way he maintains his humanity is by shagging his companions and it's the full description if the event. The sex scenes don't feel jarring or out of place and are of the vanilla harem variety. making it a book where you can enjoy both the plot and the plot.

an old fashioned adventurer of the royal explorers society and his younger companion go to a world where ones will is stolen through cursed brands. The story discusses the nightmareish damage done to someone's mind by being forced to do harm. it also discusses the more common bindings that one has to tribe, homeland, and inherent desires. The old explorer is a fountain of wisdom like Merlin to young Author. But instead of our main character pulling out a magic sword he has a has a branding iron that can break the other brands of forced compliance and taking away their sting by taking on the pain and mental anguish himself.

There is some romance and a fade to black after a brief bit of foreplay style sex scene. while the romance is a bit accelerated but meaningful and genuine feeling.

The book uses 2 veristile narrators to improve upon the well done perspective shifts so you get to see through the eyes of those being freed as they experience the breaking of their magical bonds amd how they react to their first wobbly steps into freedom.

The quality story telling of book 1 continues for the most part in book 2 woth statecraft and the founding of a guild and meeting friends form past gaming circles. The exception in writing quality occurs during the conquest of the citadel with his dragon casualy flying around sightseeing until he eventually decided to take part with his fire breathing drake. Hurdles any listener would expect like wall balista and capture point guardians appear as suprises to jack and his band even though they know how citadels work with then owning their own. The banishment dagger is either a plot point in a book after 3 or just overexagurated negative affects and was used on a low level enforcer in the empire if man wh happend to be a player. These writing problems persist into book 3.
