Excellent narration, likable new characters
Revisado: 07-30-24
I’ve been looking forward to the release of this audiobook since the last one. It’s hard to pinpoint, but I felt like the author tried to weave too many elements together. While there were some great action scenes, there was an awful lot of talking and side stories, and overall it just didn’t grip my interest like her others have done. However, both narrators were excellent, and made it easy and pleasant to listen. And yes, I liked the happy ending, which was tied up with a pair of big pink bows. When you get through the final chapter, you’ll see what I mean!

Two years into World War II, Britain is feeling her losses: The Nazis have won battles, the Blitz has destroyed cities, and U-boats have cut off the supply of food. In an effort to help housewives with food rationing, a BBC radio program called The Kitchen Front is holding a cooking contest - and the grand prize is a job as the program’s first-ever female co-host. Great plot, delightful characters
Revisado: 07-29-24
This is a story about World War II told in an unexpected way. It turned out to be about five women who competed for a chance to become a presenter on BBC radio. It was a cooking competition, With three judged events, starter, main course and dessert.
No need to go into details, I’ll just say that it was delightful to listen to. The narrator did a terrific job, and the story was well paced and had a happy ending, one that was plausible and left me feeling really, really good. I would say it’s definitely weird to women listeners, but it’s a totally.

Not what I expected.
Revisado: 05-21-24
This was one of the “daily deals.” I read the five star reviews and thought it sounded like a fun read. This one time I didn’t click on the sample or I probably would have passed it up. I only made it to chapter 3, because I simply could not relate to the characters or the storyline. in all fairness, it just might be me. I didn’t rate the narrator highly, as I found her voice annoying. But again, I guess she portrayed the characters just as the author intended. So if you enjoy lighthearted spoofs of vapid society, ladies, this might be your cup of tea. I am only glad that I didn’t spend a precious monthly credit on this one.

Not one of Ms. Coulter’s best
Revisado: 12-28-22
While there was a decent storyline, i just didn’t find the writing up to the author’s usual high standards. Neither narrator had the ability to successfully change their voices to create separate characters. The male was pleasant enough, but he completely bombed when he tried unsuccessfully to portray an excited five year old Sean. But just in case, the listener decides to forgive, and forget, 13 minutes from the end of the audiobook he actually mispronounced the legendary Van Gogh’s name as Van “Guff.” Meanwhile, the female voice was annoying, always nasal, sometimes bordering on snarky. And that voice moved from character to character, even though the narrator occasionally tried to show some excitement in her usually slow paced performance The final disappointment was that while many parts of the script dragged along with too much boring detail, all of the important details that tied the loose ends together were briefly summarized in narrative style. Yes, I have read and listened to far worse audiobooks, but I simply never expected this disappointment from Catherine Coulter.

A genuine five star book and performance
Revisado: 05-09-22
This is a story set in rural Wales. No glitz, no glamour, Just a simple, evocative story of two middle aged people living their lives, doing the right thing, and ultimately finding each other and their one true love. Excellent narration, wonderful descriptions of the Wales countryside and he lives at the Hill farmers. Caution: there is a small amount of sex in the story, but it is an integral and necessary part of this tale. Happy ending, a most satisfying story. I will save and listen to this one again. And again.

Historia
Magic most definitely resides in the Maine summerhouse where the mysterious Madame Zoya has granted the innermost wishes of its visitors. Now, three women have come to this special place with one thing in common: a painful past they would each like to rewrite. Amy, who hides a heartbreaking loss behind her seemingly perfect marriage and family...Faith, a widow in her 30s whose deepest grief is for a man from years ago...and Zoe, an artist shunned by her hometown for reasons she doesn’t know after a traumatic night erased her memory.

A great sequel to the first book!
Revisado: 04-29-22
Fact, I liked it better than the first one, I guess because I liked all three main characters a whole lot. I gave the story a four star only because I wish it could have been three times as long. They were great descriptions and details on the first visit by all three women, but the second visit and all the life changes we’re done and narrative style, not play-by-play descriptions. This is my favorite series from Jude Deveraux. A big thumbs up. I will keep an listen to this one again. And probably yet again.

Well, the narrator was good
Revisado: 04-25-22
I have listened to several other books by Jude Deveraux and thoroughly enjoyed each one. However, this one could’ve been written by a different author. A light mystery romp maybe, but none of the character development and insight that I found in her other books. Lots of twists and turns and family dynamics, but all of a sudden most of the backstory and subplots I told her narrative form. Like OK, I failed as many pages as I’m committed to write, so I still have to tell why all this happened the way it did. That was a disappointing let down.

Revisado: 03-01-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book by this author. The only thing that could’ve made it better was if the author had continued the story of the next year, rather than wrapping everything up in the epilogue. This delightful work was offered free with Prime, apparently to introduce me to the author. Next in the series turned out to be offered for one credit, and I would have gladly purchased it, except I discovered that the audiobook was only two hours and 13 minutes long. Sorry, that’s not enough for one of my valuable credits.

A talented songwriter, Shawn Gallagher spends his days lost in reverie and wonder, oblivious to the wiles of women and the ways of the world. He claims that he’s content with his life, but his music tells a different story - one of loneliness and desperate longing… No one understands why Shawn doesn’t put his musical gift to profitable use - least of all Brenna O’Toole, a fiercely independent tomboy who has been secretly in love with him for years.

I love Nora Roberts, and I love everything she’s written with the Irish backdrop and the Irish characters. This trilogy is delightful, sweet and simple, yes a bit predictable, but who cares?!? Great story, great narrator, I will listen to this one multiple times.

Overall, a great story by a gifted author
Revisado: 12-06-21
I found this book and a five dollar sale, and I’m really glad I did. The storyline, development and conclusion were all excellent. The narrator’s Voice was just fine, but her weakness Les and her inability to effectively adopt male voices. Perhaps this is one time when a second, male narrator should be incorporated. My only other negative comment is that the narrator needs to study a bit more on pronunciation of common words. Our English language is difficult at best, without the regularity and accenting syllables like the romance languages. Still, a little study on her part and listening to other authors would really benefit her performance. However, I really like the author and this series and will continue listening to it.
