Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this but after about an hour I was hooked and can’t wait to move on to the next on. The narration and production were amazing and the story was funny as hell.

Very interesting tale
Revisado: 01-16-23
I was given a free code for this book for an honest review and took the opportunity to get it seeing as I'm a big fan of Ready Player One and I wanted to see how this compared. The setting for this book is very different primarily because while the holos, is a central part of the story, much of the book takes place outside of this virtual world. That being said the story was very well put together with several twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The future tech is interesting and would make any internet geek envious. The writing is great and the characters are interesting and well-thought-out. What I really liked was the ending, it's another one of those twists and while it wraps up the story nicely it also leaves threads available to pull on for follow-up books. Being one who hates a story that is left so wide open you need to read the next book, so I found this very refreshing.

Historia
Horror and crime fiction author Armand Rosamilia loves baseball. He grew up in a baseball family. He loves watching it. Studying it. Getting lost in it. When his wife mentioned getting season tickets for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, he jumped on it. And a nonfiction book idea was born. His love of baseball and a season of minor league baseball.

Fun story that really gives some background on what it’s like to be in minor league baseball. Listening during the pandemic really made me miss sports and got me thinking of a lot of the ball games I’d been too.

When you’ve maxed out your level, done every quest, and defeated every enemy, there’s not much left. So after seven centuries of immortality, Sean wants nothing more than to die. But when a woman from a past life informs him of a real, flesh-and-blood descendant that has hacked his way in, Sean finds a new purpose. The AI doesn’t take kindly to interlopers, and parks the intruder in the one realm so buggy that even the oldest, most powerful denizens of Afterall steer clear of it - the Bitrealm.

Tons of retro fun
Revisado: 01-13-20
I received a copy of this audio book for an honest review and I’m glad I did, this is a fun read for any retro gamers out there looking to get their Geek on. The book follows a group of folks (the 8-bit bastards) as they move their exitance within Afterall, where there consciousnesses have been store and allowed them to live forever in a virtual world allowing them to live in different types of computer games. For this quest they’ve gone to the 8 bit realm where the likes of Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt reign supreme. The story follows the group as they move through the vitual world, slaying NPCs and leveling up moving towards the main boss. The book is well written and the characters are interesting and I kept wanting to listen wondering what would happen next. It reminds me a lot of the Magic 2.0 or Caverns and Creatures series (with a little less humor). Since I can’t do half start (which this is a solid 4.5 star book) I really debated on if this was a 4 or 5 star book but ended up on 4 stars due to the fact that it ended with a bit of a cliff hanger which is one of my pet peves, so I’m not sure what will happen to the group. I feel like there was a chance to bring this part of the story to a close and leave the listener wanting more. That being said I hope level 3+ aren’t too far away as I’m ready to dive even further into this wonderful world.
The narration was wonderful and the additional production with added 8 bit music left me wanting even more.

Its OK
Revisado: 06-21-19
I won a copy of “Zombie Malestrom” from Goodreads. It had been on my to read list for a little while so when I got a copy, I added on the Audible version and gave it a listen. I was a little disappointed in the book overall. The story itself was OK, it standard zombie fare with tons of blood and guts for those of you who love that. The story is left open for future books in the series so you don’t get the whole picture which I a pet peeve of mine. The characters were a bit silly, for the most part they were so rigid in their beliefs and not above to move one bit that they seemed a bit unbelievable. My biggest complaint was the writing felt a bit amateurish. I like a good description but I felt the author over described everything to the point where 1) he seemed to be adding in words for the sake of words and 2) he wasn’t leaving enough up to the imagination. Some examples are:
“navy blue Yankees baseball cap” the Yankees have one of the most if not the most recognizable brand in the world there are few people who need to be told the cap it navy blue
“smashing the glass to smithereens” and “weighed into the Donny Brook” after already telling us there was a fight. These seems a bit overly descriptive and not necessary
The description of what type of tie (Hugo Boss if you were wondering) a zombie is wearing while he’s being run over by a car. Not sure why that really matters or what it adds to the overall story
If those things don’t bother you and you love zombie gore I think this book will be right up your alley.
Moost of the narrator's characters sound the same and he's a bit monotone.

A fun book
Revisado: 04-05-19
I was lucky enough to win a copy of the Rescue in which I added on the audible version and I’m really glad I did. The story is interesting and engaging from start to finish. There is a good mix of action and plot development throughout to keep the listener interested without losing momentum. While the plot doesn’t have a ton of twists it has a few so be on the lookout! The characters are interesting and complex. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
The narrator does a good job with the various characters and bringing them all to life.

The next minute, they're in a horse-drawn cart surrounded by soldiers pointing crossbows at them.

Good Geeky Fun
Revisado: 03-28-19
Critical Failures is a geeky fun story. A group of Caverns & Creatures (read Dungeons & Dragons) players are transported into the C&C world and must live in the game and fight their way to survival. The characters are great and their integration with each other and the game are fantastic. The jokes while a bit sophomoric, they are also funny as hell. The only downside is the plot doesn’t really go anywhere but the character interactions and witty one liners are enough to keep me moving along in this series.
The narrator does a great job with all the characters and really adds to the enjoyment of this book.

Predictible
Revisado: 10-19-18
I wasn’t a big fan of this book. The characters aren’t very likable and the plot seemed to be a take off of other “seed of evil” type stories so it felt very predictable.
